I just found out something about my kitty Barney
He's scared of the broom! When I take it out to sweep the floor, he goes running.

1. Maybe he had a bad encounter with a witch in a previous life

3. Onyx chases and plays with the broom
When I'm sweeping, Onyx regards it as a cat toy. She even likes to sit in the dust pan :)

We have opposite kitties.

Regarding Barney and his fear of the broom: he might have been hit with a broom by his previous owner.

4. I got him as a kitten
I think he realizes what a klutz I am and is not taking any chances.

I'm like that too. My cats will flee the room if I get either the broom OR the vacuum cleaner. They run for their lives because they know how uncoordinated I am. :P

5. Mine are not into any large object that looks like it is hunting high and low for them.
Though I have left the vacuume cleaner out of late and they now walk past it like it is nothing - until I turn it on.

9. It sounds a little like a hissing cat when you sweep...
Maybe that's what freaks him out.

12. I wish mine were afraid of the broom...
at least enough to get out of my way when I'm using it. Instead, they get right in the middle of what I'm doing. And they love the mop -- especially when I'm using bleach in the water.

14. My cats do love bleach.
When we pour bleach in the toilet bowl, my cats roll around on the floor under the bowl like they are rolling in catnip or something. I don't know why.

15. Yup...
that's mine. When I mop with bleach, they go nuts and they'll roll all over my nice, clean, still-wet floor, leaving a trail of cat hair all over my nice, clean, still-wet floor.

16. My guys think the broom is a pingpong paddle and they want to play with it.
All of them.

Our last recruit, Wah Baby, has a new thing, though. He hooks both paws into the front of my blouse, hangs his head back and goes to sleep! This is not conducive to good work habits. He must weigh eight pounds or so but I suck at setting limits with cats. Or, maybe they do at respecting them.

:)

18. Pitter-pat likes the broom. Sniffles would rather walk across burning glass than go near a broom.
