An honest peanut butter question

I bought some peanut butter today and noticed that among all brands available (four or five), there were only two choices: creamy and extra chunky. I decided to try the extra chunky and found that extra chunky is a paltry amount of actual peanut butter added to a jar of shelled peanuts. I swear to FSM that whole peanuts constitute about 2/3 of the container. Now, here's my honest question (all three):

When did this happen? Didn't there used to be different levels of chunky?

3. I don't recall peanut butter ever being available in any "levels" except creamy and chunky.

I'm not a fan of chunky peanut butter. Maybe I'm spreading it incorrectly, but it always tears huge hunks out of the bread. Plus, it's full of peanuts. :blech:

chunk peanut butter wasn't so chunky when I was a kid. I'm pretty sure that it's now just the creamy peanut butter with peanuts, or bits of peanuts, mixed in. I prefer the "natural" peanut butter (the kind that's just made from peanuts, and sometimes a little added salt or peanut oil). With that stuff, there usually is a more normal difference; just different levels of grinding the peanuts. The smooth is usually a little grainy, and the chunky is just generally more chunky.

There's supposed to be creamy, chunky, and extra chunky. I haven't seen chunky around in a while. However, I don't mind, because I happen to love extra chunky. But I feel ya, that's some bullshit.
