Any ideas are appreciated:)
I am considering ditching my cable network and going satellite. Not because of this latest scandal, but our bill has gone through the roof lately.

The bill has gone up to 180 bucks a month for basic cable, DSL service and phone. When i got their service our bill was around 115 a month. I called bitching about it and they wouldn't budge an inch, so we are looking for an alternative.

Anyway, anyone have anything to say about the different satellite companies? I am mostly wondering about the service in general. And if you wouldn't mind describing what you receive comparable to what we currently have as far as pricing.

I'll call a couple of them tomorrow but wanted a little ammo if i can get any:)

1. Oh, crap - you don't want *any* ideas, you want ideas only as they relate to cable/dish.
Darn it.

I had a lot of ideas, too.

But I don't have any ideas about that, since I've never anything but cable.

2. I believe we are paying bwtween 50 and 60 a month
for the Choice Extra plan with DVR from Direct TV. I would have to look at the bill. We always add MLB extra innings to it, I forget how much more we pay for that.

4. I have DirectTV...
and could not be happier. Nodowntime, the DVR is fantastic. I have the second priced plan. No HBO< SHO,or other premiums but it is fine for my uses. BTW< If you have a freind refer you (like me) they et fifty bucks and you get fifty bucks.

I have ATT High Speed and it is only 19 bucks a month and Verizon and it is only about 25 a month, but I don't make that many calls on my cell.

5. My idea would be to ditch TV altogether
I haven't watched television (except for the occasional hotel stay when I realized I wasn't missing much) for about 15 years.

6. That was my first reaction..
But, I do watch a couple channels and do enjoy having them. Namely TCM and CSPAN. I would miss those. My girlfriend enjoys a few other channels as well.

All that money per month for a couple channels is something i do think about. I would really like to get close to what we have with possible better selection. Sundance and BBC would be nice:)

8. I'd say...
Option A) ditch the cable and t.v. - watch stuff on the net... or at a friends' house.

Option B) keep the intenet from the cable company - but ditch the phone and actual cable tv... it used to be that if you had the cable, but not the t.v., you STILL GOT basic cable but it was FREE. Something about how the cable works or something... anyway, the thing is you just pay for internet and get cable free. Free is good. Minus to this plan - you have to use your cell phone as a primary phone... which if you don't talk much is ok... esp if all your friends are on the same company as you and you get free calls to them.

I've used B in the past, and I'm currently doing A.

7. Love Dish Network
Top 200 is about $60 a month. We have Verizon DSL with phone service. It's about $55 and no complaints.
