The young lady named Kit on this season of Project Runway had a fantastic solid dark black heart on her right upper arm facing forward...it looked to be about and inch or so (no bigger than two inches).

Seriously, some of the abstract tattoos are so lovely. My tat is a baby doll my mother made for me when I was born...I still have her and she is all bald and really interesting. Done in black and gray, with a small tiny tattoo on the doll's ankle that says "Mom" with a teeny heart. The whole tattoo itself is on my left shoulder, took about three hours, and is about 8 inches x 8 inches (or so)

The next one I want to get is a heart the looks like it was carved in a tree, with mine and hubby's initials (been married for more than 25 years, we ain't going anywhere). We also have together decided to have this kind of engraving on our headstone, which we already have...it is quite simply, a big granite rock that looks like a rock.

I just saw one on a wrist today that I liked, it was in Gaelic I think, but the language could be anything you choose, anyway it was in her handwriting and it translated to "I am happy with my life". I like the idea of something positive like that, and it was gorgeous and just fit around her wrist.

I will get my next inspiration for a tat from some books I got on embroidery, great art in those things, especially in the older ones.
