2. Thanks for sharing!
If it were this coming Friday rather than today, I'd probably order the mini-tower right away. On Friday, I'll get a paycheck that's fat with back pay and overload pay. Today, alas, I'm still poor. :(

4. Awww... I'll keep my eye out on your behalf.
I am in IT and always looking for deals. I've been shopping a LONG time. I've waffled for about 4 years and this deal FINALLY was timed well for me with my tax refund. The machine I am replacing is almost 10 years old. :o I am way overdue for an upgrade. I ordered the Slim Tower. I'm pretty excited about it!

6. I'll keep an eye on that website.
Actually, my original plan was to order a bare bones kit from tiger direct, but why build yourself when you can get that much for $500? The only thing I don't like about it is the Slim Tower. I have a slim desktop Dell right now, and the slim profile prevented me from upgrading to a beefy video card. Aside from that, it's one hell of a deal!

7. Heh. I've been doing the same with Tiger Direct. They can't come close to this price.
Not with an Intel dual-core and 2GB RAM.

I agree on the video card. It was the one thing that really made me pause. But, I've waffled for so long that I just had to jump. My beast of a machine will not hold out for much longer.

5. Perhaps, but it's still a huge upgrade for me.

I am working with a machine that's almost 10 years old and a 17" CRT. It'll be a dream compared to my 450MHZ machine I have.

For the $$, it's a deal I can't pass up.

On edit, I read this article discussing the difference of analog vs digital LCD...

http://www.zdnet.com.au/reviews/hardware/peripherals/soa/Tech-Guide-Analog-vs-digital-LCD-connections/0,139023417,139149796,00.htm
However, the advantage of digital signals for LCDs is of somewhat less importance now than it was a few years ago. Analog signal processing has improved to the point where major differences in image quality can be difficult to detect. Unless you're a pro photographer, a prepress professional, or someone else who needs superprecise, top-notch image quality, you should be fine using a CRT or an LCD on an analog signal.

I am not a professional photographer, and have no excessive needs, am I missing something of major importance in your opinion? I've seen your INCREDIBLE photos and can see how you'd appreciate and need the better quality of digital, but do you think an average user needs more?

8. My second monitor is analog.
I use it for working in the terminal, iTunes, text editing, and whatever else that needs to be done on the second screen. I don't have a problem with it. We got by with VGA for years, I'm sure we can live with it for a few more.

15. I'm a Mac user, so their machines don't excite me
but a 30" LCD monitor for $1199 is better than the similar one from Apple for $1799!

17. It's well-known that Michael Dell is. They are also rated well on same-sex parter benefits

First, there is now a Pride Group -- a support group for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender employees. At this time, only nonexempt employees can formally join; however, the members have a Friends of Pride group and have openly encouraged temporary and hourly wage employees to join the group. I know because I am in that category. In addition, Dell has included sexual orientation and gender presentation in the nondiscrimination clause. As part of diversity training, all employees have been told that harassment based on sexual orientation and gender presentation will not be tolerated. It's not a perfect place, but Dell is trying. My personal experience is that Dell has been a very supportive workplace and that I have always felt free to be exactly who I am.

And I've spoken to many folks in the Austin area to speak highly of their efforts to give back to the community.

So I'll sleep well buying from them despite Michael Dell's dipshittery.
