More problems with the homestead
Edited on Sun Feb-17-08 06:30 AM by Droopy
I live in a four unit condo building. Two units upstairs and two units downstairs. I live in one of the bottom units. Not long ago, my neighbor directly above me had a problem with here toilet leaking. Before she realized what had happened it had flooded her bathroom and water was leaking through the exhaust fan in my bathroom. Fortunately, we go that sorted out with no apparent damage to my place.

Then last week, water started flooding my condo. There is a drain under my water heater that leads to the main sewage line. The same upstairs neighbor was taking a shower and the water back up coincided with that. The water had flooded my bathroom, the carpeted hallway leading to it, and then out my front door. I called the association and they got a drain rooter guy out to me very quickly. Before he got there, though, I went upstairs and told my neighbor not to use any water until we get the drain situation sorted out. What does she do? Not more than ten minutes later she uses the bathroom and flushes her toilet. Guess where that went. I was infuriated, :grr: but I kept my cool as I went upstairs and calmly explained the situation to her again.

I was happy with the response time of the condo association, but I really think that they should have those drains rooted out once a year instead of waiting for someone's condo to flood. They paid for the rooting service, but I had to clean up the mess in my condo. I guess I was fortunate in that I was home when all this happened. It could have been a lot worse.

1. Honestly, I don't believe this is your upstairs neighbor's fault, Droopy.
I mean, she's gotta be able to use her bathroom. The association needs to get to the bottom of this problem once and for all. And it's just ridiculous that you had to clean up the previous mess. The association should have had a cleaning service take care of it immediately. I'd be highly upset at the association, if I were you. :grr:

Sorry you're going through all this, friend. We had a similar problem a few years ago and it cost a small fortune to rectify it. x(

:pals:

2. I'm not blaming her
If I made it sound that way that was not my intent. I am blaming her for flushing the toilet before we got the problem fixed after I had told her not to use any water. I had shit in my hallway. Literally.

3. I know whatcha mean.
When we had our problem, we had feces in both the downstairs bathroom and our kitchen. :puke:

I hope your association gets this situation worked out. I can't think of a time when I've been more grossed out than when we went through our sewage problems. Blech. :scared:
