I am SO PROUD of my 14 year old tonight!
Well, he's my SO's 14 year old but I feel like he's mine. Anyway, he went to his first formal dance tonight. He's a very good looking kid and has girls from 9th, 10th, and 11th grade keeping the phone lines hot day and night. But did he invite some little hottie? No! He invited his best bud who he's known since preschool; she's smart and friendly and lovable but doesn't fit the high school definition of 'hot;' she's a big girl right now. I'm so happy he doesn't feel he has to fit the superficial high school definition of what's cool or hot; he invited who he likes best and doesn't care what anyone else thinks. Yay for him!

1. Wow. That Shows A Heck Of A Lot Of Maturity And Good Upbringing From Someone That Age.
Good for him! You should absolutely be proud!

2. I actually predicted this when he was little
I said that all the popular girls would be vying for his attention but he'd be oblivious and go off with a geologist or something because he'd find it fascinating. He has always marched to a different drummer and, yes, I couldn't be more proud.

7. I've always been that way...
but I think for me it was always that I find stupid and boring/normal to be a turnoff... :P So not maturity, just me being weird.

What a neat kid. I'm sure you had a hand in setting some admirable values in his mind.

4. I hope they have a wonderful time.
:)

That is awesome. I think there's definitely Kudos to go around. Some of the credit for his maturity has to go to the people who raised him so well.

But please make sure he knows that he gets a lot of credit for maturity. :)

6. That's wonderful!
It's so nice to hear about a young man who appreciates girls for who they are and not just their "assets". :-)
He sounds like a charmer too. He must have a healthy sense of self to be secure enough to do what he wants
rather than trying to impress the other guys. Good for him and you! :toast:

8. And I bet he'll have more fun with her than he would with some girl who just thinks he's 'cute' and
doesn't have any deeper connection to him than that. :P

Congratulations, Mom and Dad, you did a great job!

The preschool friend will be a knockout someday, and the other guys will wonder why they ignored her...
