Would this be funny?
My local Borders store has a coffee shop, of course, and it occupies approximately 80% of the overall floorspace. On one wall amid the tables is a fire exit, with a printed sign taped to the doorglass:

DO NOT USE
DOOR IS ALARMED

I'm very tempted to print a sign of my own and tape it to the glass:

SOMEONE SHOULD TELL THE DOOR TO RELAX

Would this be funny? Would I get arrested? Would I be barred from Borders Coffee 'n' More?

Would it be worth it in any case?

1. In that case, it would not be funny.
although if you were to take a picture of said door sign, and Photoshop the picture you took and use it just for funny sign threads or as a signature picture, that would be funny.

In real life though, people need to know where the exits are in case of catastrophe.

2. To heck with that!
If they only go to a bookstore to drink coffee, then let 'em burn!

But you're probably right...

3. well just tape it down low where it doesn't cover the other message
i think the joke is funnier if they can see the "door is alarmed" message to begin with, so you are not interfering with anyone's safety

i probably wouldn't do it (i'm lazy) but i would probably laugh if you do

can't imagine the kids who work at my local bookstore/coffeeshop would call the cops on you, they'd probably just snicker and take the sign down

5. I think it would be hilarious.
Just as long as you keep the original sign up.

Oh yes, and take pictures, please!

6. That is pretty funny!
As long as they don't catch you Mr. Prankster. I'm not sure what they would do to you, but I know I'd enjoy HEARING about it...
Actually I'm kind of surprised that no one has tested the door to make the alarm go off. I've worked in several places where warnings like that seem to be an invitation to people to go out the door!! And make the alarm go off.
Of course in one building you had to have the door unlocked by key/receptionist but the emergency exit button was a big GREEN button that said "exit" on it, so of course visitors always thought they were supposed to push the button...At least once a day the door alarm went off.....
