Armored Personell Carrier Seized From Online Auction

BERLIN (Reuters) - German police seized a 10-ton armored personnel carrier that two men had put up for auction online, authorities said on Tuesday.

"The men bought the tank from the Greek army and brought it to Germany. They were evidently looking to turn a profit," said a police spokesman in the state of Hesse.

The 24.5-foot-long amphibious Russian BTR 60, found in the town of Raunheim, no longer had guns but was still fully armor-plated, which meant it contravened German law.

that's the same sort of mentality that is used to weaken encryption standards for 'consumer' use.

Seems the only people who get the 'real' equipment are the people who hold the reigns. And the rest of us, well, we can just eat cake as the old saying goes.

As the article stated, it was de-milled with no offensive weapons. In the U.S. there are a few people that collect armored vehicles. I once saw a tank in a guys driveway near Bethesda M.D.

I've posted a photo of a BTR-60 before. It is a wheeled APC with eight big tires on it.

I want one of them. They're lots of fun to drive--yes, I know this from experience. And in this town, which is full of extremely bad drivers in extremely large SUVs, having a vehicle like this is becoming less a luxury and more a necessity.
