4. 4:33 AM (Running Shoes)
So I stood by the roadside
The soles of my running shoes gripping
The tarmac like gunmetal magnets
Fixed on the front of her Fassbinder face
Was the kind of a smile
That only a rather dull child could have drawn
While attempting a graveyard in the moonlight
But she was impressed
You could see that she thought I looked fine
And when she turned sweeter
The reason, between you and me, was
She'd just seen my green Lamborghini
"I think it was the Lamborghini."
So we went for a spin in the country
To feel the wind in our hair
To feel the power of my engine
To feel the thrill of desire

And then in the trees I heard a twig snap
Warning lights flashed on my map
I opened my eyes and to my surprise
There were Arabs with knives at the front of the bed
Right at the front of the bed
Oh my God, how did they get in here
I thought we were safe home in England
She said, come on now kid, it was wrong what you did
You've got to admit it was wrong what you did
You've got to admit it was wrong
"Oh god....Jesus..."

7. Frank Zappa - Broken Hearts are for Assholes ...

reminds me of a Zappa quote regarding the effect of Music Lyrics on the masses. (I paraphrase)

since 90% of the songs out there are love songs, everyone should be loving each other. This clearly not the case.

Cheers

8. 'rocket love' by stevie wonder
I longed for you since I was born
A woman sensitive and warm
And that you were

With pride and strength no one would test
But yet have feminine finesse
And so much more

You took me riding in your rocket gave me a star
But at a half a mile from heaven you dropped me back
down to this cold, cold world
Took me riding in your rocket gave me a star
But at a half a mile from heaven you dropped me back
down to this cold, cold world

A female Shakespeare of your time
With looks to blow Picasso's mind
You were the best

Your body moved with grace and song
Like symphonies by Bach or Brahms
Nevertheless, oh oh

You took me riding in your rocket gave me a star
But at a half a mile from heaven you dropped me back
down to this cold, cold world
Ooh you took me riding in your rocket gave me a star
But at a half a mile from heaven you dropped me back
down to this cold, cold world

11. You're A Big Girl Now - Bob Dylan

Our conversation was short and sweet
It nearly swept me off-a my feet
And i'm back in the rain, oh, oh,
And you are on dry land
You made it there somehow
You're a big girl now

Bird on the horizon, sittin' on a fence
He's singin' his song for me at his own expense
And i'm just like that bird, oh, oh,
Singin' just for you
I hope that you can hear
Hear me singin' through these tears

Time is a jet plane, it moves too fast
Oh, but what a shame if all we've shared can't last
I can change I swear, oh, oh,
See what you can do
I can make it through
You can make it too

Love is so simple to quote a phrase
You've known it all the time, i'm learnin' it these days
Oh, I know where I can find you, oh, oh,
In somebody's room
It's a price I have to pay
You're a big girl all the way

A change in the weather is known to be extreme
But what's the sense of changing horses in midstream?
I'm going out of my mind, oh, oh,
With a pain that stops and starts
Like a corkscrew to my heart
Ever since we've been apart

13. " Jeopardy " Grey Kihn Band
Where were you
When I needed you
Well you could not be found
What can I do
Oh I believed in you
You're running me around

Well you can take it as a warning
Or take it anyway you like
It's the lightning not the thunder
You never know where it's gonna strike

< Chorus >

Our love's in jeopardy
baby
oooh-ooh-ooh-ooh (2x)

Don't be cute
Don't be funny now
It's later than you think
Oh what's the use
Save your money now
It's hanging on the brink

Don't let go while I'm hanging on
'Cause I been hanging on so long
It's so hard to be all alone
I know you're not that strong

< Repeat chorus >

< Solo >

Don't let go while I'm hanging on
'Cause I been hanging on so long
It's so hard to be all alone
I know you're not that strong (yeah, yeah)

< Repeat chorus >

14. "Ten Degrees And Getting Colder" - Gordon Lightfoot
He was standin' by the highway
With a sign that just said "Mother"
When he heard a driver comin'
'Bout a half a mile away
Then he held the sign up higher
Where no decent soul could miss it
It was ten degrees or colder
Down by Boulder dam that day

He was raised up in Milwaukee
Though he never was that famous
He was just a road musician
To the taverns he would go
Singin' songs about the ramblin'
The lovin' girls and gamblin'
How the world fell on his shoulders
Back in Boulder I don't know

It was out in Arizona
That he heard the lady listenin'
To each word that he was sayin'
To each line that he would write
So he sat down by her table and
They talked about the weather
Ninety-eight point six and risin'
Down by Boulder dam that day

And she told him she would take him
For a ride in the mornin' sun
Back in Boulder he had told her
"I don't know when I had a better friend"

Now he's traded off his Martin
But his troubles are not over
For his feet are almost frozen
And the sun is sinkin' low
Won't you listen to me brother
If you ever loved your mother
Please pull off on the shoulder
If you're goin' Milwaukee way
It's ten degrees and getting colder
Down by Boulder dam today

Although this is supposed to be a love song it sounds like one of the saddest songs in the world. If I didn't understand English I'd never guess from hearing this song that it is about a HAPPY couple.

19. Frankie and Johnny Were lovers, O lordy how they could love
They swore to be true to each other, As true as the stars above,
He was her man, but he did her wrong.

Johnny said I've got to leave you, but I won't be very long
Don't you wait up for me honey, don't worry while I'm gone,
Cause I'm your man, I'll never do you wrong.

Ain't gonna ask you no questions, ain't gonna tell you no lies,
Your Johnny man was here about an hour ago, with a gal named Nellie Bly,
He is your man, but he's a doin' you wrong

Now Frankie's dad was a POliceman, and he owned a forty four,
Frankie went home and got that gun, from her father's dresser drawer,
She loved her man, but he's a doin her wrong

Frankie came lookin' for Johnny, But she wasn't looking for fun
For in her sweet and loving hand She was totin' a
44 gun
To shoot her man if he was doin' her wrong

Well Frankie walked into the bar room And right there in front of her eyes
There was her lyin' Johnny Making love to that Nellie Bly
he was her man, she caught him doing her wrong.

Roll out your rubber tired hearse boys, Rollout your rubber tired hack,
There's 11 men goin to the grave yard today, and there's only ten a coming
back,
He was her man, but he did her wrong.!

Frankie and Johnny Were lovers, O lordy how they could love
They swore to be true to each other, As true as the stars above,
He was her man, but he did her wrong.
Well this is the end of the story, Well this is the end of my song
The story might be true or the story might be false But you listened to this
song,
He was her man, but he done her wrong

Young men listen to this story, young men listen to this song,
If you love a little gal, and you tell her so, You'd better never do her wrong,
You know the song, So never do her wrong.
never do her wrong.

27. Bob Seger~Famous Final Scene
Think in terms of bridges burned
Think of seasons that must end
See the rivers rise and fall
They will rise and fall again
Everything must have an end
Like an ocean to a shore
Like a river to a stream
Like a river to a stream
It’s the famous final scene
And how you tried to make it work
Did you really think it could
How you tried to make it last
Did you really think it would
Like a guest who stayed too long
Now it’s finally time to leave
Yes, it’s finally time to leave
Take it calmly and serene
It’s the famous final scene
It’s been coming on so long
You were just the last to know
