:banghead:
Or at least, to remind us of why we felt like losers in the first place. :P

8. How do you donate more than 5 and dole out stars to different people?
I have a list (which you just made) that I'd like to do, but it seems to only take one per transaction, and it adds a buck for each transaction.

It's a silly game, but it sure has lightened things up in here a bit.

63. You don't designate the recipient at the time that you donate.
You donate in your own name, and then, as long as you still have hearts left to give, you see instructions in the bottom of each post where hearts currently show. If you want to donate to that particular person, you click on that link. This area also tells you how many hearts you have remaining.

22. Seriously
I'm not all that comfortable with it. I've been very surprised and very gratified to have received mine, but I see people who are much nicer than me, or who could use a real pick-me-up more than I could, who don't get the attention.

So while I'm personally very pleased with it at the moment, I think it's sorta icky.

41. exactly
this does make some people feel left out... as silly as that may seem.

sometimes it's hard to see things from others' pov. Some people get wrapped up in validating themselves, not others, and don't admit that these things make them feel better so surely it would benefit someone else. Inclusiveness matters to me because, when I was younger, I was in the jock/cheerleader, etc. clique and found that they were so nasty toward others that I didn't want to hang around with them... so I didn't. Not only were they mean to others, they were also not as interesting. Snubbing others was more important than making others feel better. So I'm sensitive to that experience for others.

This is why I started the "who wants a heart" thread and Corp and LynnSin told people to give others hearts. For those who dismiss this, try to think about being here, being rather quiet, having more than 1000 posts, or having 300 and then you get ignored. Come on, admit it. It would make you feel sad to go through a fundraiser like this if you didn't receive a heart.

to me, something like this only works if people give to those they don't know, too, if someone doesn't have a heart icon, who can't help but feel good giving one? Yeah, people can give hearts to themselves, but a lot of people don't want to do that.

on that heart thread, a man had recently lost his wife. He said he could use a little love. People gave him hearts, a star, and he was lifted up. People who say it's trivial to them, etc. get some anonymous heart and feel good.

I wish I were independently wealthy so I could be a secret santa every day. I also wish I could know who's been donating hearts because I'd love to give them tongue kisses that are sooo hot they fall on their knees.

52. Yeah, there's a definite "Grade School on Valentine's Day, and
I'm not one of the popular kids so it's time lower my expectations yet again" vibe to it...

Conversely, can we also describe it as a "@!#&-measuring contest" (in a completely non-gender specific way, of course) of sorts?

On the other, I see a few posters (specifically those spending most if not all of their time in GDP) that I could only describe as colossal jackholes, that have several hearts...I suddenly don't feel so bad about my relative lack of hearts anymore!!

72. you've got it backwards
he was making fun of people who made some comment about the "high school" aspects. those are crocodile tears.

The thread title is in reference to an earlier thread in which Retro made up foursomes for dinner (which he also references here.) He doesn't realize, maybe because he is so extroverted, that some people are shy, but if others reached out to them, they would respond. Others, on another thread, noted this sort of thing made them uncomfortable.

So Elrond is making fun of those people.

or maybe I have it all backwards.

78. Nope, Elrond isn't making fun of those

who commented on the HS aspect of this.

He started the LoungeLosers club a little over a
year ago.
We haven't had a thread lately, but it's for all the people
who felt left out and alone.

A lot of people signed in, even some who weren't feeling
left out.

80. pardon and thank you for explaining
I guess I was feeling a little sensitive about the other issue and conflated the two. apologies to him and to everyone else. Obviously I am having a hard time playing in groups at this moment, so I'm taking a break.

The lack of little hearts is feedback. It lets you know that taking your investment of time and effort on this board is not to be taken seriously in lieu of an actual life. :spank:

82. Heart strategy
If I find a thoughtful or amusing post from someone who does not already have a heart, I give them one of my hearts. It's a way of saying thank you for participation on DU. Unfortunately there are a lot more such posts than I have hearts.

90. I haven't been hanging out here much
I donated and have a few hearts to give out -- so I'm proudly giving one of my hearts to you, Elrond. For all that you've done to elevate loserdom.

Haven't been posting much, so don't even expect anyone to remember me. I'm kind of anonymous, but I do love this community and always know that I can come here for a good laugh
