OK DU computer geeks help a brother out
We got a new computer in December. Weeeee I have Vista now (and please no Mac/Windows wars). It came with a free two month subscription to Norton antivirus/spyware, which is ending here shortly. I really don't want to pay for a subscription, so I was wondering if anyone had recommendations for free antivirus/spyware software that I could use. What do you all prefer?

4. I use AVG too
It's very small and unobtrusive compared to Norton.

Also Spybot for anti-spy ware.

10. no, it just makes more problems
by filtering email without telling you, refusing to download things without telling you, blocking normal corporate traffic without telling you.

slowing everything down.

not actually catching any viruses.

slow ass piece of shit interface which makes adding open ports take far too long

I'd burn every copy if I had the choice

12. You know what? I don't think I'll be buying any Norton products for Mrs R's computer.
You're not the first oone I've heard state such an opinion about them. I think they lost it in about 1998, actually, at least on the Mac side.
