There. I said it.

It's interesting, they make stuff that you can make, they review cooking equipment at all price levels --it's not just one person and it's not as annoying as it's commercial counterpart, Good Eats.

ps-I like Julia Child but I'm talking about current cooking shows, which I don't typically like anyway.

1. I do like America's Test Kitchen and I miss Julia Chid but....
Jacques Pepin was anointed by Julia and I enjoy his program.

6. I recommend the magazine
Cook's Illustrated, in some ways the print parent of ATK, is a fantastic magazine filled to the gunwales with impressive but devilishly simple recipes, helpful tips for keeping things from drying out and/or sticking to each other, and reviews of commonly available brand-name ingredients. To top it all off, every issue features a charming editorial by Christopher Kimball about his rustic New England lifestyle. It's brilliant.

8. I like it and I watch it

but the guys on there are really kinda flaky. The women who actually do the cooking are pretty cool, especially Bridget and Julia. I'm pretty lukewarm on Rebecca, too.

I have taken away some good tips and I get their monthly email newsletter. But there are other shows I've enjoyed when I've seen them, too. Thankfully, I don't have cable so I don't see any of the parade that are on the Food Network and I'm glad for it.

9. Their cookbooks are wonderful.
I own "The New Best Recipe" and "The Best 30 Minute Recipe", and I've had "America's Test Kitchen Family Cookbook" out of the library a gazillion times (probably the best basic cookbook out there - would make a great wedding gift). Also have checked out "The Best Make-Ahead Recipe" and their cookbook on pasta and noodles multiple times.

10. We got the
Family Cookbook for my MIL for Christmas. I do like to take cookbooks out of the library, too, just to see if I'd be interested in investing the money to buy them. I end up getting so busy with cooking and other reading that I end up returning them without getting a chance to really give them a good looking over.
