when I had better willpower. I guess it's good that I can eat the vegan fare with an objective eye, rather than just turn up my nose out of sheer ignorance. I actually honestly LIKE some of the gardenburger offerings.

47. I don't ever see myself
going completely vegan. I like eggs, cheese, milk, butter. I didn't think garden burgers were vegan. When we were buying them in the beginning they had cheese listed in the ingredients. Maybe some of their varieties are? Altho they aren't vegan, I do love Amy's California Burgers, Quorn Naked Chik'n Cutlets, and MSF's Chik'n Nuggets. And I still enjoy eating meat occassionally, so the fact that I like those meat replacements really speaks for them.

52. The variety I had last night claimed to be vegan...
but you're right- the original Gardenburger did have cheese in it.

They have come a LONG way with the meat substitutes... Once I made sausage balls (packaged sausage, bisquick, and cheese) out of one of the meatless sausage packs and served them to a group of staunch "I hate meatless food" types. Only a couple of them could tell that something was different, and one of them even admitted to preferring the meatless version.

13. Mexican Skillet and spinach salad.
Yeah, it isn't "fine dining" or fancy food, but we ate it up...

1 lb ground turkey browned with onion, cumin, garlic and chili powder

Add:
1 can tomato soup
1/2 soup can of water
1 cup fresh salsa
1 can black beans drained
add more chili powder and cumin to taste

Simmer for about ten minutes

Add:
3 whole wheat tortillas cut in one inch squares

Turn to low heat cover and simmer for five minutes or so. Serve with grated cheese and any other garnishes you like.

Good "kid food."
