Okay, that was cool. Ice cream trucks rock!

My four year old comes up to me and starts babbling on about ice cream trucks and spiderman ice cream and wanting to know what day it is. Um, Wednesday...I think. Then the seven year old starts in on me and asks what day the ice cream truck comes. Hell if I know. Saturday I think. Maybe. I've seen it once or twice since we moved in here...five and a half years ago.

Next thing I know the kids are tugging at me and dragging me outside. Lo and behold there's an ice cream truck. With an attentive driver who saw us in her rear view mirror and backed up. She waited for me to get my wallet and a few minutes later I have three kids (surprised the eleven year old who was blissfully unaware) with obscenely bright colors of food dye running down their chins.

It's almost time for me to make dinner, but darnit, an ice cream truck came through the neighborhood. Bad mommy and all that, but THIS is what childhood memories are made of. A brightly colored truck driving really slow through the neighborhood playing a song that will drive you insane as it runs through your head for the rest of the day and an ice cream that nature couldn't possibly invent.

Life is good.

Edit: P.S. The four year old just took a pair of kiddie scissors outside to cut the grass. I'll see him sometime next month I guess. Bwa!

7. As far as I'm concerned...

there will be far more days with a healthy dinner than days when an ice cream truck comes through the neighborhood. As a humanist, I believe we have but one lifetime. No need to make really poor choices, but sometimes we just need ice cream in our bellies and a cheesy tin melody in our hearts.
