How many books are on your "to be read" pile?

I did a quick count and I've got 115 books waiting to be read... and I'm still buying books.
I've either got to stop buying or start reading faster.

1. I had about 200 next to my bed.
I finally put them in the library.

2. Probably about the same
Though in terms of my pile that I plan to "get to soon", it's about 40.

8. I'm guilty of not using my library card.
I got one last year and I still haven't made use of it. With so many books piled up waiting to be read it just hasn't felt right checking more out of the library. I really should though... it would save a bunch of money.

28. I'm too poor to buy many books.

But the closest library to me where I used to live was... well, not close.

Now I live within walking distance of a library, and now that I finally have my state ID here I was able to get a card there too. :)

7. Oh boy that's not a good question
:)

I have about a dozen sitting on my shelves waiting in the immediate queue and probably about 3 dozen more in my text file I keep of books I want to read.

I'm in the middle of two fiction series - Hyperion Cantos (Dan Simmons) and His Dark Materials (Phillip Pullman) so the remaining books in those series contribute to the list. I'm also reading one book for work (ITIL certification) and another non-fiction "Animal Dialogs" and a collection of articles and excepts in a "text book" of sorts for a Voluntary Simplicity workshop I'm taking so even my "reading right now" list is longer than usual.

10. Wow. How do you keep it all straight?
I've read 2 books at a time, usually one fiction and one non-fiction. Beyond that I think I'd get confused.

20. I also usually have two I'm reading
A "home" book, usually serious and/or hardcover, and a traveling book - paperback, entertaining - for when I'm stuck in lines or traffic jams or on public transportation.

Right now my home book is The Assault on Reason, and my traveling book is Jack McDevitt's Infinity Beach. My unread book pile was getting alarmingly small while my car was in the shop. Fortunately, Amazon and RetroLounge came through. A junkie in withdrawal is a prettier sight than I am when I've run out of books to read!

I'm taking about twenty to the used book store this evening. I can exchange them there for new used books, one for one plus a dollar. As addictions go, this is a cheap one.

25. You gave me a great idea.
I forgot about the used bookstores. I have 2 boxes of books that I'm finished with and that would be the perfect place to take them.
Thanks!

I don't have too many piles. i keep them shelved. I have a few shelves just for my to-be-resd stuff.

I have 3 bookshelves in my bedroom, and 7 in the livingroom, a pile on the kitchen counter, a pile on the nightstand, and several stragglers here and there.

In my opinion, you need to buy more. :D

14. I'm tempted by a few books I saw listed from one of my clubs.
I'm trying to resist temptation but you know what they say... The only way to get rid of temptation is to give in to it. :)

16. You need to buy more, more, more!!
:) But I warn you, once you start you can't stop.

What I should do is create a list of books I want to read so I won't forget about them but instead I just buy them and hope I find the time to get to them.
One advantage is that I always have something interesting to read!

waiting to be touched. At this rate - I'll have to sell some of those suckers to make room for more books.

29. Half
I'm halfway through Northanger Abbey and will have to either find a new book or reread something when I finish it. I'm always short of reading material.
