I went to a movie, and I was the only one in the theater.
Cuz of another snow storm and the Super Bowl. I told 'em they didn't have to run the movie, I could come back another time. But they did, and were real nice about it.

1. Did you pretend you were some famous person
and rented out the whole theater for yourself?

Put your feet up on the seat in front of you?

Talk on your cell phone during the movie?

2. I did put my feet up. And laughed out loud more than I would have otherwise.
And shouted at the screen once. When Jason Bateman was being an asshat.

5. My son and I went to see Shrek II and there was only one other family in the theater
So we laughed out loud and talked to each other during the movie as if we were watching a video in our living room

29. I really enjoyed it.
It had a certain sincerity to it and I think if I was a few years younger I would have a total crush on Juno, haha.

3. Funny, I just mentioned this in another thread

I went to the theater one year on Super Bowl Sunday and there were three of us there. It was a showing of a movie called Kundun about the Dalai Lama and was done by Martin Scorsese. Beautifully shot film and it only ran in theaters for about two weeks. It was the last time I have been to the movies, but was the best time I had because no one was there.

4. I saw that. It was around the same time as "7 Years in Tibet" IIRC.
And yeah, this was a good time, though I felt a bit guilty because of the bad weather. Actually, it was just snow, and wouldn't have seemed like a big in Iowa. But here, they freak out about snow. If it's just snow, with no wind or ice or sleet, I hardly notice. But people here just close and cancel everything. I was a little surprised the theater was open. I told'em they didn't need to show previews and commercials, so they could get done sooner, but the manager said they have to show those if they run the movie.

But yeah, it was fun having the place to myself.

12. Didn't see those, but....
I saw Little Buddha many years ago, speaking of Tibetan themed stuff. Beautiful movie.

Maybe I should have gone to see the U2 3D movie at my local IMAX in the nearest Googolplex.

7. I saw "The Doors" like that
when it came out in theatres, my friend Joni and I went to a matineé of it, and we were the only ones there in this enormous old movie palace, and before the movie they were playing this insane, silly French café music at an obnoxiously loud level, for nobody - and we just looked at each other and cracked up. I did put my feet up on the seat and talked too loud during the movie just for the hell of it. We wondered if we walked out halfway, would they still show the rest of the movie if nobody was there?

But the cinema was being renovated, and the seats in the middle had all been taken out. So I sat on the floor in the middle - it was great.

15. Fantasia 2000...that is what happened to me. I had the entire IMAX THEATER..
I am an animation buff. This film hypnotized me. So I wanted to see it more than once. When I went a third time, no one else showed up in this huge theater. So I watched it alone. What an experience.........

I was alone as the ex to be was being a real sow about letting me see the kids on Christmas Day at all.

Good theater, DTS digital sound, good screen. The turned it up for me REALLY LOUD.

18. LUCKY!!!
The only way you'll drag me kicking and screaming to a movie theater is if it's a matinee in the middle of the week on a beautiful day.

I loathe movie theaters.

21. I've just finished reading some Girard - I hope you killed them as unwilling victims!
And formed a new cinematic society at the mall.

Seriously, though, I was just reading the Girardian lectionary stuff on Sunday's Genesis text.

Fan-fucking-tastic as always. Girard is the master. Anyone not reading Girard is a non-cognizant-of-being-desire-obsessed dumbass. And probably didn't go to a legitimate seminary.

23. You're reading next Sunday's texts on Monday?!!
What kind of mimetic rivalry drives a person to be obsessive? Geez. I've barely gotten the transfiguration out of my head. But now I'm curious. So I'll go take a look. On my day off. Next time we need a scapegoat, I'm nominating you.

26. I saw one of the Lord of the Rings movies with a friend and we had the theater to ourselves
We started up a running commentary on the movie, mostly consisting of admiration for the hotness of Orlando Bloom (her) or Viggo Mortensen (me).

Hey, we were in high school at the time....

next to you getting up and walking past you to go God knows where every 15 minutes, no asshole behind you driving his knees into the back of your seat, no asshole forgetting to turn his cellphone off...

It must have been Nirvana.
