My Dad Is Out Of Recovery/Talked To Him On The Phone

my son is talking to him now...

he's a little doped up, and all, but it went well. They are expected to get him up and walk him :wow: this evening.

They put some kind of hardware in his back to keep the vertebrae from pinching his nerves in his Lumbar spine

and I was surprised they will walk him.

They don't know if he will have immediate relief, relief that takes some time, or none, but getting him up to walk will be informational in that regard since he will be able to tell if he is better.

He's pretty doped up though lol

yes and it is amazing too

I remember he had back surgery 30 something years ago and he was in bed for what seemed like weeks

I know it is a different procedure altogether

hope it is successful and healing is rapid

he was getting to where he couldn't walk very well at all because of nerve impingement and was in a lot of pain.

12. I wasn't aware that he was in any trouble. I'm glad that he's doing okay!

13. He's had trouble walking that got worse

since last summer

he had conservative treatment (PT and NSAIDs) and that helped, but the pain and trouble walking returned so he saw a neurosurgeon a couple of weeks ago and had surgery this morning/afternoon.

getting up and around is probably important for the recovery, but yeah, we've come a long way from when people stayed in bed for days, or worse, from when they couldn't fix this stuff at all.
