1. Hi Ashling!
:hi:

That seems like a very relevant period to be studying right now. It seems like we're heading right back there. :(

I hope your reading isn't boring. I sometimes stay up all night reading stuff like that. :P

4. I find it extremely interesting
I'm considering doing my thesis on something having to do with the Populists. I really like the professor in this class. I have had him for two other classes. He requires a lot of reading and deconstruction of the various readings. I really enjoy that and looking for connections and linkages between the readings.

We are also very like minded philisophically. He was talking about the golden parachute that the CEO of Countrywide got for bankrupting that company: $110,000,000.00. His comment: "We ought to be in the streets." The Populist movement on the plains in the 1880s and 90s is as close as we've come to a mass democratic movement to do that.

My roots are in the Populist movement here in Texas (where, btw, it all started). My great grandfather Frank DeLysle Holmes was a strong Populist. I grew up with stories about how when the miners in Thurber Tx went on strike in 1898 (I think thats when it was) they were fed by the farmers of north Texas.

I am very proud of that heritage and get really upset at the Texas bashing that goes on here. Lest those delf righteous DUers who engage in this should forget, it was not that long ago that the entire country, not just the South, benefited from and were in some way involved in slavery.

But, I digress.

I had better start reading again, I could talk about this for hours, but I'll be asleep by then, LOL But taking breaks to talk on DU helps keep me awake

9. Goin' pretty good, I guess, all things considered
My landlady called today just to let me know that they were getting ready to sell this house and that I need to contact this realtor lady to make an appointment for her to see the inside of the place. We knew that they were going to sell sooner or later, we were just hoping for later. We had been hoping that by the time they got around to selling that we would be financially in a place where we could buy it, but things haven't been going that way.
