Poll question: Do you own an entire TV series on DVD?
Edited on Thu Jan-24-08 01:50 PM by MrCoffee
If you want to post which one(s), feel free. If you want to insult me for wasting time with the idiot box, feel free.

I own multiple complete series on DVD. TWW, Firefly, The Office (the original BBC version, including the special), Scrubs (complete through what's been released), My So-Called Life

1. I bought my wife "China Beach" last Christmas
we haven't finished watching it.

I had never seen it as I was in the Army at the time.

We don't really watch much current tv, but the whole family likes these three series.

3. I have all 6 seasons of "Sex and the City" on DVD
but I decided after that I was not going to buy any other TV series. SATC affected me in many positive ways because they were about the same age as I was when the series came out and I could relate to the stuff they dealt with.

Edited on Thu Jan-24-08 09:23 PM by fifthgendem
Total opposite ends of the spectrum.

I'd like to have M*A*S*H, the old Dick Van Dyke Show, I Spy, The Man from UNCLE, The Simpsons, and the two Newhart shows. I have the first two seasons of Anything But Love, but I'm afraid they'll never put out the last two (?) seasons. I'm also working on completing the Animaniacs sets. And I'd absolutely LOVE some Doctor Who.

As you can see, I'm all over the map.

104. I have the complete "Sports Night". But only the first four seasons of "The West Wing".
The fifth season sucked and the final two were only just *meh*.

As great as the acting and production values were, it was Aaron Sorkin's writing that made that show so astoundingly good (for the first four seasons, anyway... ).

the 5th season, on the whole, is my least favorite, but there are a few episodes that take my breath away. "Han" for instance.

36. Oooh, Richard Sharpe
I am SOOOOOO jealous. I have the complete Sharpe on VHS tapes and want to upgrade to DVDs - perhaps with my tax rebate :rofl: . Reading the books and watching the series got me interested in Napoleonic warfare, so much so that when I was doing my masters in military history, I took a class on it.

84. Thanks
they are long over - I got that masters in 1996. It was fun, a double major - military history and modern East Asian History. A few years later, the modern East Asian history portion came in handy when my husband and I wanted to adopt our daughter from China. I was able to prove that I had a long-standing in China that helped with our application.

My wife never saw the show, and it's fun going through all of the episodes again. She's been a Bruce Boxleitner fan for years (shades of Scarecrow and Mrs. King).

The recent addition to the library - "Babylon 5: The Lost Tales" DVD was pretty good too.

28. About 15 years ago I VCR'd every episode of Hill Street Blues in order
They were in re-runs on Channel 11 at midnight, so I finally learned how to program my VCR for auto-record. About halfway thru season four the show starting getting delayed for CBS's late night coverage of the Wimbledon finals, so I had to set those tapes aside and record over them when the re-runs for that season came back around several months later.

And that, my friends, is what they call obsessive.

103. I've never seen the U.S. version, but I love the British version because
they play it absolutely straight and in a pseudo-documentary style. It's one of those shows that you really have to watch, or else you miss some of the best lines.

American comedies often look as if the actors know they're in a comedy. The actors in the British "Office" act as if they're totally serious about everything. Watching it is like eavesdropping on real life scenes in which the people happen to be acting just the other side of absurdly and aren't aware of it themselves.

109. Those are the qualities I like about the American version.
You nailed it when you said that it seems like we're "eavesdropping" on the conversations. I'll have to check out the British version.

62. Dead Like Me, Monty Python (more, but too lazy to go look); but now, my rant...
I absolutely HATE (with a purple passion) having to click so many damned times:
click episode #1; click play; fast forward through "Previously on Such and such Show";
click fast forward through intro music and opening credits; fast forward through end credits;
click episode #2; and repeat the process through each episode.

I just want to watch all of the episodes in a row as if they were one long movie.

GGGRRR!!!

And a season of the 60's Star Trek :headbang: and the first The Office. and Monty Pythons!
We have some more shows I don't brag about, my husband's got different taste from me!

I would get the X-Files if they were cheap, I have every episode on VHS. I doubt I'd watch it all again, I'd just like to toss the stack of tapes someday.. though it'll seem a shame after I spent all the time making them.

Yay!

Oh, wait, I should have answered multiple series - we have all of Scrubs too. But it's still going on so you can't say that you have the complete series yet.

We don't watch it on TV and just watch the DVDs, and I gotta say that the last season put out on DVD seemed to be thinking about dipping its toes into shark infested waters.

Oh, wait, and Firefly too. Which is, sadly, over. So yeah, I should have voted multiple. Sorry.

75. Most of my complete collections include:
* Star Trek (TOS)
* The Golden Girls
* The Prisoner
* Firefly
* Blake's 7
* Doctor Who (1963-1989, as each new story is released)
* Sapphire and Steel
* Futurama
* Get Smart
* I Spy (1965-1968, NBC, Bill Cosby, Robert Culp - not the daft kiddie cartoon crap made today)
* The Piglet Files

Shows I only have the "better" seasons of:
* Red Dwarf (1-6, reluctantly 8)
* Good Times (1-3)
* The Avengers ('65-'67)
* Are You Being Served? (series 1-5)
* Roseanne (Seasons 1-5, may ebay away season 5)

Shows I am considering:

* Star Trek TNG (seasons 1-4, 7, maaaaaaaybe 5 and 6 for the four stories of the bunch I even remotely liked)
* Star Trek Voyager (Janeway's better than Picard, no wonder she got promoted instead of him, and the reverse-TOS premise isn't as bad as some say... Indeed, even the incidental music tries to recreate TOS's feel at times... it even takes itself seriously; erven with the Borg episodes that trash continuity... though the Q episodes, farcical are they are, are still highly entertaining... I'll admit, "The Q and the Gray" was where I picked up on Q's juvenile yet hilarious line "Mine's bigger!"... so now you know. :P )

76. I have several
In fact, I rarely watch TV shows first run, I get the DVD set if I like the show after renting the first few episodes from Netflix and I think it's a show I'll watch more then once. If I want to only watch it once, I'll just rent it. It's so great not to have to endure all the stupid ads and watch the show totally uninterrupted.

Shows I own the whole series include: Xena, Buffy, Angel, Firefly, Babylon Five, Stargate (all ten seasons!) and Chef. We got the first 3 seasons of 24, but it started to get old. We've got a season or two of The Office (British), and a few other BBC series. We just started on Stargate Atlantis, but it's not quite up to par with the original series. We've rented Rome and Bones.

99. Series on DVD are one of my biggest weaknesses.
After bills, DVDs and books battle it out every month as my biggest expense.

I own the complete series or every season available of The Critic, Aqua Teen, Sea Lab 2021, Moral Orel, American Dad, The Oblongs, The Venture Brothers, Draw Together, Reno 911, and The Chappelle Show.

I also own some seasons or episodes of Home Movies, In Living Color (I purposely stopped buying them after season two because they started censoring out the music parodies), Married With Children, South Park, Pink and the Brian, Family Guy, Robot Chicken, and The Twilight Zone.

I plan on ordering a couple of more series soon.
