My son visited the Reagan Library today
He saw Reagan's Air Force One.
He learned about his love of jelly beans.
He learned about the assassination attempt on Reagan.

I told him, "Reagan was a Republican. He had some virtues. When I think of one, I'll tell you."

5. He's only eight
He reported all this rather matter-of-factly. His father and I did emphasize that shooting Presidents is a very, very bad idea, and reassured him that there are not many people who think this is okay and even fewer try.

9. Now I know who Bonzo really is
Bush! Bonzo Bush is the spiritual chimp child of Ronnie Raygun--in fact, I think Bonzo Bush is Reagan on steriods--literally and figuratively!

3. It's got to be better than the Nixon Library.
They glossed over Watergate, suggesting that Nixon had nothing to do with it and that he was brought down by the press and the Democrats.

It was a sick joke.

Thankfully I think a new guy has taken over at the Nixon Library and he's making sure to give an accurate account of Watergate.

6. Reagan wanted that to happen
It was the Air Force One which served six presidents from 1973 to 2001. So yeah, they snagged Clinton's plane

10. What? He wasn't impressed with
the Saint Ronnie exhibit?

Actually, I gotta say I'm impressed that they didn't try to instill The Doctrine of Reagan into those kids while on the trip. I'm sure if they had, your son would have given a much different account.

Planes, beans and gunfire sound like a pretty legitimate overview. ;)

14. The finest aspect of the Reagan library is that
each and every square inch of it may be freely utilized as a toilet.

15. Did they display the Reagan Drool Bucket?
;)

Boy, I'm soooo glad my kids don't have to go to field trips to Repukian sites. Actually, there would probably be a riot if they did. This is Portland, I'd say 95 percent of the kids in my kids' classes are vehemently anti-Bush. The parents try to inject subtlety into discussions, but the kids just DESPISE Bush.

20. At the Reagan "Library" the emphasis is all
on the fluff. Nancy's dresses. Rooms full of gifts he received. Movie posters. Jelly Beans.

There's a graffiti-covered hunk of the Berlin wall outside, and you'd think Ronnie had personally pulled it down and carted it back to California based on the worshipful attitude of the docents - all white, country club, well-heeled, senior types who looked like they might have just stepped off the links or come from a meeting of the Republican Women's Club. It's kind of creepy how even the tourists there are mostly white. It has to be the least ethnically diverse tourist "attraction" in California and more a shrine to his stature as a repuke icon than a serious "library."
