OMG! Alison Stewart (Olberman's Sub) is interviewing my gf tomorrow on NPR
Edited on Tue Jan-22-08 04:13 PM by soleft
So, my gf did this experiment, where she road a bus in NYC with a fake book she created called, "Fat is Contagious, how I gained 100 pounds sitting next a fat person on bus" - then she wrote an essay about all the different reactions she got. Because a lot of people, believe it or not, thought the book was real. She did it because over the years she's gotten tired of the reactions she's gotten from people being a large woman riding public transportation.

The essay's been on line, I think I posted here once. Anyway, she got a call today and tomorrow she's going to interviewed about it.

Holy Crap!

Anyway, I think the show starts at 7:30 am, and it's called the Bryant Park Project.

4. There was a real study recently that
did show that there is a correlation between your own weight and the weight of the people around you, in your social and professional circle.

You are more likely to be overweight if the people around you are overweight.

Sorry I don't have a link.

5. I saw that. In fact, most articles used the same title Fat Is Contagious
Her use of the title I think came more from a sense that she got that people would not sit next to her on a bus, almost as if they had a fear that if they did, they would catch something. I think psychologically, most people, and I'll include myself, would have no qualms about squeezing into a seat next to say, a six foot five linebacker, and someone who took up the same amount of space but was viewed by society as being overweight.
