Tonight on tap at Tavernertavern: Dogfish Head Raison D'Etre
Edited on Thu Jan-17-08 06:32 PM by Taverner

I love a good Belgian - and these days there are so many to choose from. Thing about Belgians are no two are alike. Even of the same brew with different batches. Belgians also tend to throw traditional rules out the window, and do things like (a) add raisins and (b) use beet sugar, which this one did. On paper, these things might sound disgusting, but the Belgian Brewer can see things in fruits we don't - and that's why its a true art form.

This one did not disappoint - woody smoky flavors, almost like a fine Cabernet. Pours a nice brown-mahogany with little head.

ON EDIT: The beer is gone, but I'm still smelling the glass. It smells like...beauty.

2. You know I think there's a certain kind of weather that makes for good beers
All the Northwest has simply awesome beers. Portland, OR is on the same lat as Delaware, no?

Although San Diego comes along and blows a big gaping hole in my theory.

3. hahah.... how many had you had before you wrote this?
I love this very beer - one of my favourites, but what on earth does it have to do with Belgium?! It's from Delaware!!! It's not even a Belgian-style...

7. do you really think so?
It has probably some characteristics of that, but dogfish head don't describe it as such, and I wouldn't - I also don't think a belgian brewer would use those ingredients.
