Hero or Darwin Award?
A woman at my office just ran in between two cars to avoid an accident. :wow:

From what I have gathered, the car she had exited (I am not sure if she had parked it or if there was someone else in it) popped into gear and rolled toward another car. To avoid a collision, she placed her body between the two cars, managing to get pinned between them.

She just left in an ambulance.

The owner of the car that she "saved" is distraught since someone was injured.

So is she a hero? Or was this just not too bright?

You decide.....

If somebody wants to jump in front of my car to save it from getting cosmetic damage, more power to them.

Hope she's not hurt too badly. I wouldn't have done that unless the car was heading towards one of my kids.

12. The ambulance left at regular speed - no lights
or sirens out of the parking lot (now I don't know what they did once they left).

Yikes - the femeral artery - that sounds serious....

Hopefully she is okay. Her supervisor followed in another car.

I am sure there will be more information later or tomorrow.

13. Can't be a Darwin Award
So how are the Darwin Awards actually determined?

Nominees significantly improve the gene pool by eliminating themselves from the human race in an obviously stupid way. They are self-selected examples of the dangers inherent in a lack of common sense, and all human races, cultures, and socioeconomic groups are eligible to compete. Actual winners must meet the following criteria:

Reproduction
Out of the gene pool: dead or sterile.

Excellence
Astounding misapplication of judgment.

Self-Selection
Cause one's own demise.

Maturity
Capable of sound judgment.

Veracity
The event must be true.

(Shit. Now I'm toast.)

...I wouldn't chalk this up as stupidity or something. I'd imagine she reacted without thinking, and I just can't judge anyone's brainpan on a nanosecond's impulse.

Cars crunch in accidents, and the drivers walk away.

People crunch in accidents, and they become organ donors.

18. it sounds crazy but
your mind plays strange tricks when you are in a situation like that.....

It wasn't a car but we were out side lunging my horse and he was getting a little to excited for my comfort... he was being lunged by another person since I was in the learning stages, well he got loose and the rope was long enough that stupid lost picked it up thinking she could stop this huge and strong animal.... all I got were rope burns on BOTH of my hands because the rope just slipped through them. I couldn't stop him... DUH
anyway what I am trying to say is I think the adrenaline affects your thinking when a situation comes up like that.... you think you can stop a car or a horse, but yeah in reality we can't... you don't think realistically ..

I hope she is ok....

Maybe you should try a few of these lines on her to give her a good laugh and to help her recover quicker. She might appreciate humor. I sure hope she does for her sake. She's going to get a lot of it. :P

22. Darwin Award and possibly a huge pat on the back from the
auto insurance companies. She just set a bad bad precedent for the rest of us. Now, ALL of the auto insurance companies will expect us to make at least the same "effort" and put ourselves in at least as much physical pain to avoid accidents or up our premiums and refuse to pay for damage done if we don't. *gulp* :wtf: was she thinking?

Do you think the health insurance will cover it? Or will she be deemed a "risk taker" and never get health insurance again?

Hmmmmm

28. I hadn't even thought of that angle to the story.
Wow, that's a good question. So, the money she saves on her car insurance will have to now go to the higher cost of her health insurance. Hmm, I guess things have a way of working out sometimes. At least she'll break even that way, maybe. :P
