Are you a dark or a light person?
This subject came up last night and I'm curious. I am a dark person. I routinely walk through the house turning off lights, even before global climate change became an issue. At night, after the kids are in bed, the entire first floor is dark, save for the one lamp I am reading by.

My kids, on the other hand, never met a light switch they didn't want to turn on. :eyes:

So, are you a light or a dark person? Me, I like my vampire status.

1. Dark!!!
Right now I have ..I do believe everylight in the house out (yes, I just checked) ; and to add some warmth I have some small candles burning.
I always like it dark, unless making a large family dinner/cooking.

3. Dark.
With all the windows, I don't turn a single light on in the house until it's around 6pm, when I need to turn one on, lest I step on a pitbull in the dark.

4. Dark person, due to house
The living room is dark paneled walls and ceiling. Downstairs hallway mysteriously never had a light installed.

It's a bright house, during the day, though. The upstairs is well-lit, as well.

But I generally turn off lights as I leave a room.
My wife will leave every light in the house on. Except when watching TV, then it has to be pitch dark. Even if I am on the computer trying to type.

15. Light
My dad was a dark. He turned off all the lights at night, and it really iritated me watching TV in the evenings w/o a lamp on. So I developed the habit of reading or doing crossword puzzles just to keep a lamp on. And I still like it that way.

I will even leave a lamp or two on in the house if I am away in the evening. I live in the country and if there are no lights on, it's a good invite for mischief.

But I do use the flourescent bulbs now.

Love love love natural light. My house does not have enough windows to suit me.

Does the darkness of winter just kill you, or what? That's my least favorite part about it, I think.

I'm getting better about turning off lights that are on in rooms I'm not in, but I still like a lot of warm light - non-fluorescent, like Christmas lights, are my favorite. I haven't taken down our Christmas tree yet, in big part because I love how it lights up our living room in the evening...

I also go around turning off unnecessary lights (which everyone else in the family seems determined to leave on). I find myself sounding like my father (that's a very scary thought!), "Do you people think we OWN the electric company?"

I do like for the room I'm in to be illuminated. But then I brighten up ANY room just by walking in ...

23. Light, light, light
As much light as possible--but I don't turn on lights in rooms we're not using.

Our living room is always dark, and the trees that affect that don't belong to us, so all I can do is pray for a good windstorm (blowing them over in the other direction, toward open yards, of course) or blight. I like spending time in the front bedroom--it's always nice and bright in there (above the trees).

And just to prove that opposites attract, I call Mr. MG a troll--his office has no light in it (well, it's still under renovation)--just the glow of the two computer monitors and a gooseneck lamp he has to leave on or face the wrath of our always-cold runt of a part-Persian pisspot kitty.

25. When the sun goes down I enjoy the dark.
On my own I live by the sun, and at night I'd be happy with a few LED lights in each room. When I was single my room was lit by a computer monitor and a forty watt incandescent bulb.

My wife and kids are light people. Our entire house shines like a beacon in the night.

If not for compact fluorescents I think we'd be a significant profit center for Pacific Gas & Electric.

26. I keep my electrical bill low
I have 100% fluorescent bulbs in my apartment. When I leave, I just have the hallway light burning, and it's 9 watts, I believe. When I'm home by myself and not doing anything, I usually have the light on over the stove using 11 watts, and a 7-watt lamp by my computer during the night. Plus I have my monitor on, and my mouse pad is self-illuminated with blue LEDs.

Actually, my electric bill is about $15 in fixed fees and taxes and $16 in electricity every month. I don't watch TV much anymore because I don't have cable. I used to watch the replay of Conan O'Brien at 3am, but not since they broke the picket line. I usually use a toaster oven for making individual meals instead of the oven. And I have good light coming in from the patio doors, so I use that in daytime.

My PC runs full time, though, because I'm looking for space aliens. And I have a humidifier going as well.

I actually feel pretty good about my household carbon footprint.

36. dark. I love the dark and often walk around without the lights on, which drives people nuts
what's funny is, my nightvision sucks, but so does my regular vision, so apparently I am learning to ignore it.

According to my grandfather my first word was "dark!" Apparently, I was a late talker, even to the point that my family was starting to worry about me. One night my granddad - my grandparents helped raise me at a couple points in my life - put me to bed and when he turned out the lights, I yelled "DARK!"

lol.

I don't burn the lights in every room. Just the living room and the hallway, and then the other lights get turned on and off as necessary.

I replaced the two lamps I burn habitually with CFL bulbs to try to assuage my guilt a bit.
