Actor Brad Renfro found Dead

Actor Brad Renfro, whose career began promisingly with a childhood role in "The Client" but rapidly faded as he struggled with drugs and alcohol, was found dead Tuesday in his home. He was 25.

Paramedics pronounced him dead at 9 a.m., said Craig Harvey, chief investigator for the Los Angeles County coroner's office. The cause of death was not immediately determined, Harvey said, but an autopsy could be conducted as early as Wednesday.

Renfro had reportedly been drinking with friends the evening before his death, Harvey said.

Renfro's lawyer, Richard Kaplan, said he did not know whether the death was connected to any problems with addiction.

1. I heard about that somewhere else
and I was trying to remember what the hell I've seen him in... somehow I missed all of his major movies.

The only one of his I've seen: Bully. Small indie film. Go figure.

And I only watched it because the guy who played Tommy Gnosis in Hedwig and the Angry Inch was in it.

6. Me too, only saw him in Bully, but saw it twice
It was so disturbing. Plus, the guy from Carnivale (and Terminator 3) was in it - whatever his name is.

This is very sad.

11. I agree; it's just extremely disrespectful
the man is dead; there's no need to picture his personal demons other than for gross sensationalism

22. I don't agree.
I think self-forgiveness is an important aspect of recovery and maturity, and that perpetual dwelling on moments of "failure" is an exercise in self-flagellation that benefits no one.

I also think it's mighty brave of the living to say what the dead "should" have been doing with their life.

23. Okay, I see your point...
...and I guess I was personalizing the situation. Thinking about how I myself might have wised-up sooner if I'd had objective, visual evidence of the things I did and the way I looked doing them.

I don't know much about Brad Renfro beyond the obvious facts that he's 25, an addict, and dead. So yeah, obviously I have no way of knowing what he "should" have been doing with his life. My previous post was just a suggestion (maybe not a great one), and I might have phrased it that way.

It was really tasteless and below the bar for true journalistic standards.

19. Hollywood chews up child actors and spits them out.
So many child actors have led tragic lives after their fame faded.

26. He was such a great actor
I have seen almost all his movies. He was great in Sleepers as the young Michael Sullivan and in Apt Pupil as Todd Bowden. Apt Pupil is also one of my favorite Stephen King short stories, and I really think Brad was great as Todd Bowden. He was also great as Huckleberry Finn in Tom and Huck.
