1. nobody has any ideas?

I know, it's a tricky one. I'm trying to think of stuff we can use on the home front, but it's hard.

2. Maybe a small house, crowded with family, or her convalescence?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Annie_Oakley

Annie was the fifth of seven children. Her parents, Susan and Jacob Moses,<2>
were Quakers from Pennsylvania. A fire burned down their tavern so they moved to a
rented farm in Patterson Township in Darke County. Her father, who had fought in the War of 1812,
died in 1866 from pneumonia and overexposure in freezing weather. Susan remarried to Bruce Jenkin,
had another child, and was widowed a second time. During this time, Annie was put in the care of
the superintendent of the county poor farm, where she learned to sew and decorate.
She spent some time in near slavery for a local family where she endured mental and physical abuse
(Annie referred to them as "the wolves"). When she reunited with her family,
her mother had remarried a third time.

In 1901, Oakley was badly injured in a railway crash, but she fully recovered after
temporary paralysis and 5 spinal operations. She left the Buffalo Bill show and began
a quieter acting career in a stage play written especially for her, The Western Girl.
Following her injury and change of career, it only added to her legend that her shooting
expertise continued to increase into her 60's.

3. she was an interesting woman who had a fascinating life, it's true
did you know the Indian Chief Sitting Bull gave her the nickname "Little Sure Shot" and they became lifelong friends after they met? She reminded him of his daughter who had died a year earlier...

she also was responsible for teaching 15,000 girls how to shoot a rifle. Wow.

:hi: Ptah! Good to see ya tonite! Happy New Year!

5. I'll bet she could have ridden one hundred miles.
I did not know about her nickname or her educational prowess.

:hi:

4. Annie Oakley vs. Godzilla
One of the lesser-known events in her life, for some reason.

6. OK,,,here goes
Edited on Tue Jan-15-08 10:38 PM by Whoa_Nelly
use a sized and printed out pic of Annie, glue to cardboard/poster paper, trim to make her a stand alone cut out, and use as central to display
(plenty of pics via google:
http://images.google.com/images?svnum=10&um=1&hl=en&lr=&suggon=0&as_qdr=all&q=annie+oakley+&btnG=Search+Images )

smear layer of glue to bottom/floor of diorama and add sand to create a "dirt corral" area

Inside back paste in circus tent, add a banner that states P.T. Barnum's greatest Show on earth to it, and some other people, horses to create distance of field
(again, google:
http://images.google.com/images?q=+circus+tent&btnG=Search+Images&svnum=10&um=1&hl=en&lr=&suggon=0&as_qdr=all )

Maybe even some of his circus posters:
http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&lr=&suggon=0&as_qdr=all&q=pt+barnum&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wi

Make a corral semi-circle our of toothpicks and string...be creative

Place Annie in the center or a bit more to one side

Add a bull's eye target off to her side away from her
Maybe use a powder puff coverd with a homemade piece of cloth colored in red. yellow and blue circles
and supported with toothpick to look like it's on a tri-leg stand

Add theater curtains swept back on either side to emphasize the Greatest Show on Earth
Curtains can be made from old shirt, or most anything you have on hand that can drape and be pulled back

7. OMG, I love you!!!
:loveya:
I'd already downloaded some of those very cool pics and was trying to figure out what to do with them. I love the circus tent idea. Brilliant! I am copying and printing your entire post so ShineGirl and I can go over it with a fine-toothed comb. Thank you so very much, Whoa_Nelly!

We'll have some fun with this. Now I'm excited! :hi:

8. don't you love school projects where you have to re-invent the wheel
in 3 hours the night before?
