XM or Sirius?
Our local AAR affiliate only has a decent signal when the sun is up in the winter and the signal fades dramatically at about 7pm in the summer. Since I have a 45 minutes commute, I'd ready to go satillite. Which one? AAR is only on XM so I'm leaning that way.

Is there any reason to go with Sirius? Are they planning to merge? I haven't paid a lot of attention to the whole satillite radio thing recently.

Thanks!

1. I've had XM for years, and love it, and it looks like a merger.

2. be careful the XM version of AAR sucks
9-12 Lionel
12-3 Ed Schultz
3-6 Randi
6-8 Rachel
8-10 replay of Thom Hartman
10-12 delayed hours of Malloy's 3 hour show

I'm still waiting to hear about the merger plans

3. Is Bill Press on?
I can barely make him out in the morning -- there's so much static on our AM station. What I do hear is awesome though.

6. I have XM and now rarely listen to AM/FM
About 90% of the time I am either on channel 167 (AAR) or 202 (Opie and Anthony)

12. You beat me to it
XM's the only way I can hear the Dodgers without being tied to my computer or running an extension speaker all over the place.

13. It is nice.
I really like when the Twins are playing at home so I can catch John Gordon and Dan Gladden, and get the old home feel. Granted John Gordon still annoys me to no end, because he misses a lot of what is happening during the game, because he likes to gab.

8. I've read that the playlists on XM are a little "deeper."

I know that Earle Bailey, former Philadelphia DJ is on XM, so that's a big seller for me.

9. I've had Sirius for a couple of years and enjoy it very much
I actually Listen to the radio now :)

I like the BBC and NPR (2 channels) on Sirius as well as Howard Stern.

I also like a couple of the music channels (I'm not a big music listener) like the Vault and there's another classic rock and blues station I don't recall the name of right now.

Then there's the Raw Dog comedy channel which plays old unedited comic routines from the likes of Pryor and Carlin and newer stuff too.

They have a "Talk Left" but I don't listen to it usually, not that it's not good, I don't know I'm usually on one of the other channels.

But as others have mentioned there is supposed to be a merger, although it's been a year since they announced and the regulators are holding it up so I guess that's still iffy.

14. I have XM in my car and it is awesome.
I love the MLB selection and they have great reggae, heavy metal and hip-hop stations. I do miss the prog rock channel, however.

15. Thanks everyone -- sounds like XM. Now, which unit?
I like the INNO -- the fact that it's portable. For price though, I was looking at the XT XM Roady. Any thoughts on the hardware?

16. I have only eve heard XM once in a rental car
But I love Sirius. I love the music on Disorder, Outlaw Country, the Spectrum, Little Steven's Underground Garage.

2 NPR stations. I don't care for Sirius Left. Alan Colmes is on Fox Talk (not sure that's what it is called) but they have TWO right-wing talk stations (Sirius Patriot-WTF? I guess liberals aren't patriots? and Fox).

19. At least Sirius airs ALL of the Mike Malloy show
In it's proper time slot. Downside is that their satellites are nowhere near as easy to get a signal from as XM.

Neither one airs Thom Hartmann at the right time, or in entirety.

Hopefully when the merger goes through, they'll have all the good radio shows on in their proper times, and you'll be able to get a signal anywhere, if they use XM's satellites and not the ones Sirius has now.
