Anyone watching Comanche Moon, the Lonesome Dove prequel?

Unlike the terrible "Return to Lonesome Dove," it's at least based on a story by Larry McMurtry. It's probably my favorite of the three LD sequels/prequels he wrote.

Steve Zahn makes a fine Gus, Val Kilmer has a lot of fun with one of the more eccentric McMurtry characters ever (and that is saying a lot) and Rachel Griffiths (Six Feet Under) seems to be having fun as well.

1. Steve Zahn is a young Robert Duvall. Wonderful. It's good, but nothing can beat the original.

It's knd of hard to top that. I've read everything that McMurtry's ever written hoping to find anything close to Lonesome Dove.

And at 900 pages, it was too short. I remember when I got down to the last 100 pages or so, I started reading more and more slowly, not wanting it to end.

That is the sign of a great novel.
