1. Freeways.
Nobody uses the word "interstate" around here. Interstate 5 = THE 5, Interstate 405 = THE 405, etc.

I have a feeling that's because most native Californians are unaware that there ARE any other states... ;)

Ya take The 198 over to The 99, and head on down 'til you get to The 5, then head on up over The Grapevine, take The 405, and you'll shortcut to SD in no time!

And when going to Tucson, I always take The 99 to The 58 on over to Barstow area, and then The 210 on down to The 10. To bypass Phoenix, just take The 85 down to The 8, then get back on The 10 on into Tucson.

It is SO true...everyone around here calls the roads like that.

10. Yeah, and in the S F bay area we don't even use articles it's "80" or "5"
To go from Berkeley to SF airport, take 80 to 101...

There are other states? ;-)
