I live in a county in Pennsylvania that in 2004, I'm embarrassed to say, went for Bush by a tidy margin. Thus I am often reluctant to wear my politics on my sleeve while I'm out and about in town.
However, exiting the grocery store today with my two young boys, I spotted a car pulling into the lot with a "No W" sticker in the window (a crossed-out circle with a W inside it.) The car parked very near to my own, and as I loaded my boys into the car, the driver and passenger of the other vehicle emerged.
They were in their early fifties, I'd guess, and I could see that they were a trifle uneasy. I said that I loved their window sticker, and they immediately relaxed; the woman explained that they'd noticed me giving their car the eye and were a little spooked.
In the space of about 45 seconds, I learned that in 2004 they were so disgusted that they actually considered moving to another county, and this time around they feel that a Hillary/Obama ticket would be unstoppable. I also learned that they're online but hadn't heard of DU. It was overall a very nice, though brief, meeting, and I could tell that it sort of made their day to meet a fellow traveller in the wilderness.
We parted company shortly thereafter, and I jotted DU's url on a scrap of paper along with my screen name and tucked it into the driver's side window.
Not sure if they'll show up here, but I was glad to plug our favorite website in any case...
