Ignore is making me nuts. I just can't Do it!
OMG!!! I finally broke down and used the ignore feature on a poster over in GD, and I just can't take it. It is the first time I've ever used it and it just isn't working for me.

Now I know the posts are there and I can't SEE what they are--which pisses me off more than actually seeing what they say.

I have got to just walk away from GD for a while.

Must. Walk. Away.

Gaaaack!

1. Then take him/her off ignore and read their posts.
You know you want to.

7. There's a way to have someone on ignore AND read their posts...
just log out and read the thread. Chances are good that you'll get a reminder of why you put the person in the ignore booth in the first place.

4. Take a couple of deep breaths
Tell yourself "This too shall pass". Then back away from the computer.

Take a long walk. Go to the gym. Lie on the sofa with a real, live book (I recommend Gruen's Water for the Elephants) and a cup of sinfully rich hot chocolate. Play with your dog. Garden. Cook a good meal from scratch. Clean out a drawer or closet. Start a quilt/painting/collage/sculpture. Lock yourself in the bathroom with a dozen pretty candles and some yummy bubblebath.

Now, don't you feel better? Believe me, ignore is your friend. I only have one person on ignore right now, and I've learned the hard way that that's exactly where he/she belongs. The world is full of jerks. Don't allow them to rent space in your head.

5. Wow, there is an ignore button?
Thats wierd, I would have never guessed that. I have never read anything that made me soooooo mad that I would ignore the writer. I guess I need to grow some thinner skin.

11. You've only been here a short while.
Sooner or later, you'll probably need that button. Most folks here are friendly and reasonable, but we do have one or two hostile jerks.

I've never put anyone on ignore for disagreeing with me. How am I going to learn if I don't expose myself to different ways of thinking? But gratuitous nastiness is not something I tolerate either.

Welcome to DU! :hi:

14. Eventually, you might get annoyed enough.
I have only one person on ignore, simply because I didn't like his style of discussion. It was like playing soccer with someone who kicks your legs instead of the ball.

15. Welcome to DU.
:hi:

Some people only have a couple of people on ignore. I have 1 person on ignore right now. I've had a maximum of 4 people at one point.

Some people have monstrously large ignore lists so that they really filter what they see.

Over time you might decide that there are some people you really have no desire to see or speak to. Or not. Either way, it's nice feature to have available.

I read the snarky posts and didn't like them.

You can't please everyone every time, so just be yourself.

So far, that is a wining strategy.

25. That's part of the "nuclear option", isn't that what people call it?
When you put someone on ignore in all 3 ways: you can't see them, they can't reply to your posts, and they can't PM you.

35. Usually I realize it too late AFTER I've replied in the thread.
So then I want to SEE if the asshat came back and got even more stupid. It is a vicious circle, I swear.

I left the house and moved the contents of one of my Mom's closets to their new house, came home and made dinner for the family. Laundry is running and now I'm back online again. I do feel a bit better for taking the break, and my Mom is happy.

Looks like the asshat invasion in GD has receded somewhat. I may survive this without getting banned from DU or else stroking out. It is a near thing, but I might just make it. I do think I'll try to stay the hell out of GD for a while, however. (That might last for about half an hour, btw.)

36. If I put somone on ignore, can they still see my posts?
Edited on Tue Jan-08-08 12:16 PM by cabraverde
I seem to have a psycho stalker who keeps getting all uppity and offended by everthing I post. I really have no use for her, and all she seems to do is complain so will ignoring her make her go away, or will she still be leaving nasty grams that I simply cant see nor respond to?
