Which is better for shipping a laptop: FedEx or UPS?
Edited on Thu Jan-03-08 05:06 PM by npincus
I just purchased a refurbished laptop; the Seller had advertised his shipping policy was to use FedEx Ground. However, I received an electronic notice from UPS; it was shipped yesterday via UPS (from California; I live in NJ). I contacted the Seller who said he used UPS for "larger items" as they "tend to take better care of them".

Personally, I think that's bullshit- one of the appeals of buying the thing was that it was advertised as using FedEx service. I know that FedEx shipping is more expensive than UPS. The laptop weighs almost 8 lbs.- I was charged $49 for shipping with insurance. I'm a little concerned that UPS will not handle this kind of thing as carefullly. I'm kind of pissed, but will let it go if my laptop arrives and is in good condition.

What do you all think, FedEx vs. UPS? Do you think there is a big difference between the 2 when it comes to shipping this kind of thing? What would your preference be?

Ok- thanks!

1. Fedex seems to 'care' more
I've seen things I want to forget while being a UPS runner.

2. personally, i used DHL to ship a laptop, and had excellent results
i had to send my POS dell laptop back to them to fix it, and DHL was fantastic. they provided a padded box, and the driver helped me secure the laptop inside and tape up the box.

never shipped a laptop with FedEx or UPS.

And it was fine...it was brand new mind you so it was "factory" packed. Personally, when ti comes to shipping like this there is good and bad in all of them and most times it can come down to the driver or whatever....just my 2 bents though.

7. Mine has gone to service and back via UPS with no problems.
But at work I've also seen them mangle stuff I thought was unbreakable, so I think shipping is a crap shoot with any company.

As long as you get the insurance and have good documentation you should be fine.

8. I would advise you not to worry about it unless it becomes a problem.
Otherwise, you're spending your time worrying about unknown outcomes and preparing for conflict that may never happen.

I'm sure you can think of a dozen other things that would make you feel much happier than this.

Give yourself a break.

:)
