Mending Fences...

Sometimes I have broken
so much more than I've bought.
Wasting sweet, precious time
on bitter, angry thoughts.

I've hurt those I've loved
and I've burned myself too.
It's much easier to blame
than to admit you're the fool.

But if these words ever fall
on any ears from back then,
please know that I really wish
I could go back again.

And mend all the fences
that I tore through before.
And cross over bridges
without slamming the door.

I wish I knew then
what I've now come to know.
That things can end as friends
if they can't seem to grow.

I've never been good
with conflicts or doubts,
everything just comes at once
and blows up in a shout.

So I guess this is my way
of making some sense
of the heartaches and loss
that make up my fence.
