Anyone else sad about who was voted off Survivor last night? ((SPOILERS))
Edited on Fri Feb-06-04 02:47 PM by LynneSin
He was a crusty old man, but you had to give kudos to a 76 year old man going out there and starving himself again and putting up with all that crap. I was hoping he'd make it far in the game, but he wasn't feeling too well and he was the weakest link on the team (although some were gunning for Ethan since he's already won the big prize).

Goodbye Rudy - we'll miss ya!!

And so is Survivor.

Lets put a bunch of self-centered people together and watch them create an exclusionary hell.

You are watching a neocon thought experiment: Finding ways for destroying community and inclusivity for the sake of survival-of-the-fittest.

You get people to buy into this by making them wonder who will sleep with who, and how much skin they'll get to see.

20. I don't buy into crap so don't read anything into it
I just like some mindless entertainment every once in awhile. It sure as hell beats the news.

If you don't like Survivor (or Sex and the City) then don't reply to the thread.

There are things I don't like that others on DU like to do. I don't jump on their threads and insult them. We all have guilty pleasures so deal with it!!

32. FYI
Not once on Survivor, 8 seasons so far, has anyone slept with anyone else.

And most people are pulling for the nice ones to win.

And the only two outspoken "freepers" were voted off early. One of them has even complained that most of the other people on the show were very liberal.

Like the very openly gay man that won the very first one.

Yeah, the neocons are excited about that, I'm sure. :eyes:

And as for the "exclusionary hell," the most successful strategy yet is making alliances, which involves actually getting along with other people.

Finally, why not post some of the things you like to watch so we can all dissect it and determine what passes "liberal muster" and what doesn't? I ask this of people all the time when they decide to crap in a Survivor thread, but I never get any takers.

6. Not really....I give him credit for trying but....
I'd much rather see them make sensible game decisions by removing weaker tribe members at this stage than the "let's off the previous winners" routine which would have gotten tiresome.

Besides, Ethan is yummylicious and I would have hated to see him go.

10. It made me sad, too.
I love Rudy. Actually, I am rooting for Rupert to win.

Jenna makes me sick. I think she is a whiny baby who used her looks to win. But I like Jerri better than last time. I thought she was a snake then. But she seems like she is trying to tone it down this time, and be a team player.

Why do I care about this crap? Stupid! Duh!

18. Don't care what anybody says
I started watching Survivor with my two sons from the beginning and we shared that one show. Seems silly but it was fun as we would argue and guess and laugh etc. Now I just have one boy left at home so we watch it and tape it to rewatch when the other is home. I LOVED Rudy and I was so pissed that he was sent home. I also like Ethan and did not want him to go. Why is Jenna still there? Yuck, I do not like her. Jerri I hated the last time but she is doing OK now.

I don't watch any other of these reality shows, just this one but I really enjoy this one.

19. You know
I liked Rudy too, but I can see why the others voted him off. I mean this tribe has been to both of the first two tribal councils and will be hurting in the competitions because of it.

Rudy was ailing ( a bad foot or ankle or something) and at Rudy's own admission, he is 3 years older than he was during the original Survivor. And at 75 years old, 3 years can make alot of difference. This all means that Rudy was not going to be able to contribute physically as much as the other younger healthier members of the tribe.

One thing I was disappointed with, was Rudy's attitude though, after he was voted off. I thought that he would have understood he strategy of the game better having been there before. I mean he even threatened the other cast members saying that they better not be around him in the future as he has alot of friends or some such nonsense as that. I just thought that was kind of immature for someone Rudys age.

31. Yes, I'm surprised no one else mentioned Rudy's reaction.
Something like "They better watch their back when they get home. I know a lot of people."

Man, if I didn't know better, I'd swear he just threatened to have them killed! Chalk it up to the stress, dehydration, whatever, but you've only been there 4 days, Rudy!

That statement made me feel they were right in voting him off.

And for those who get all self-righteous about how stupid survivor is whenever one of these threads comes up... GET OVER IT! It's TV! It's a game show, a sport, whatever you want to call it. It's a whole hell of a lot more entertaining than your average sitcom out there. Plus, Survivor actually brought "family TV" back to my house. We can watch it without having to explain things to our kids (or hide their eyes or ears). At least they blur Richard out when he goes au naturale.

35. The key to it
is "the blindside." The sense of betrayal when you've been told for days that someone else is going, even up to a couple of hours before the vote, and then get blindsided by the vote.

Most people who take it personally have been blindsided, after all.

22. Good Riddance to the old Fart
He is a horrible old man and I say this because in the first survivor, Gervas, one of the Survivors became a father by his girlfriend and Rudy made a remark that I will never forget. It was something like 'It's better to have an abortion than have a kid when your not married'. Before that I didn't think about him one way or another but now I can't stand him.

I've read more than once that he's not as nice as they make him look on the show. I don't know if that is true or not. But I don't believe anybody is as good or as bad IRL as they are portrayed. It's a TV show.

28. Sorry to see him go, but it had to be done
As much as I would have preferred to see Jenna get the boot, Rudy was hurting the team in the challenges.

Speaking of which, WTF was up with them in the IC? Whose bone-headed idea was it to try and bail the water out instead of pulling the boat out of the water before flipping it? And then they lost a bucket. THEN they left a paddle behind. Mental errors absolutely KILLED them. In fact, Rupert's mental error killed them in the first IC. They have GOT to get their stuff together, or they will keep going back to TC.

Oh, and for those of you who wonder why I watch this crap, there are two reasons. One, I love the outdoors and would really enjoy an adventure like that. And two, my sadistic side likes to see them suffer.

39. I dont't think Rudy hurt them all that much
From what I saw, it seemed like Jenna was more interested in pointing out Rudy was behind or slow or whatever because she wanted to boot him cause she knew Rupert and he had an alliance which would challenge hers.

see Rudy go but it was the a smarter choice then voting off Ethan. Rudy was ailing and was likely going to weaken more and more as time went on. I am glad that Rupbert kept his alliance with Rudy to the end.

38. Jenna is the real weakest link
They were foolish to vote Rudy off. For one thing who is the most likely to win immunity challenges later on? Jenna has a bad attitude, and basically needs to be cut down to size.

If Rupert was smart he would have gotten Ethan in on thier alliance, cause now he is alone and toast.
