it's my son's present, but he's in bed, so I'm playing with it.

One of those little indoors R/C helicopters.

Man, I wish they made these when I was a kid. And I'm going to use his microscope next. Nobody tell him, OK?

Don't let him catch you or it will be an all nighter as you guys take turns watching it fly!

2. I'd not mind an all-nighter with the microscope. When I was his age, I spent about
four months trudging around in the snow and cold, selling goddamn greeting cards, to get anough sales so I could claim a microscope as my "prize."

It turned out to be a VERY good microscope, and well worth the effort...I even bought a camera adapter for it, 20 years later, and used it for microphotography.

It's a big microscopic world out there, and a fascinating one.

3. I got one of those too. I'm an awful pilot.
Just a few years ago, there were no motors light enough for these.

6. Is it called a "Havoc Heli" or something like that?
My Mom and stepfather got our little boy one of those. I spent last evening trying to follow the instructions and adjust the "trim" properly so it wasn't flying all over the place when you pushed the throttle stick. Alas, we only gained the slightest amount of control over it. The dog was terrified, the cats were VERY interested, and I'm already thinking that maybe we should try this thing outside. ;)

11. Pretty much the same thing. Not REAL controllable, but fun anyway.

8. My dad and my favorite uncle....
...got drunk together late one Christmas Eve and stayed up all night playing me and my brother's "Don't Break The Ice" game.

Too bad video cameras weren't around back then.
