2. Any public parties or parades planned in your area?
Get wasted and make some new friends.

10. Ditch the anti-anxiety meds and drink some good port instead.
It is better for you and you will also feel better.

4. Hey, you have all of DU to talk to tomorrow!
I'll probably be here tomorrow at some point and I know there's

a thread here that at least 15 others will be here too!

I may as well be alone, as my kid will be engrossed in CD music and video games.

My oldest two are living out of my state, so I won't see them but me might talk on the phone.

Happy Holidays and don't feel alone. You aren't. ;)

:toast:

5. Jewish community center
They usually have something going on.
We had a hilarious time volunteering one year. Who at the Jewish center thought it would be a good idea to send a bunch of Jews out to a senior citizen home to sing Christmas carols? It was pretty pathetic, but I think the people at the home appreciated it.

6. If it were me,
I would curl up with great books and movies, comfort food and drink, and perhaps a little holiday decor, and spend a blissful 24 hours by myself. I've done that a few times, when family was out of state during the holidays.

If you are feeling lonely, though, I'd find some friends who also have no local family. My mom, who has lived alone for more than 3 decades now, and was 1000 miles away from the rest of us for several years, always has a few friends over for holidays; people without local family, like herself. She prefers that than to going to a friend's home, surrounded by their family that she may not know well, but separated from her own.

7. If I were you, I'd find a food kitchen or an elderly gathering place
and go help out. I'd try to do anything I could to get my mind off of my own troubles and I think you may see some folks worse off than you are. Having said that, please know that it's not easy to be alone at this time of year and I wish you better times to come.

8. I'm in the same boat, but kind of looking forward to it
No obligations, no place to be, no hassles.

The only thing I'm down about is that there won't be any coffee places open, and I like to go and have a coffee and read the paper on my days off.

Oh well, I guess I have to dust off my coffee pot.

9. I'm sorry to hear that....
Did you read Redstone's thread yet? If not, you should find it (was just on the first page...) His suggestion is to work for a charity tomorrow - you receive through much through your giving, and it doesn't cost you anything but your time. Merry Christmas to you, UndertheOcean

11. Peace be with you
Merry Christmas to you and I hope that some of the sun's rays make it through to your day tomorrow to bring you some cheer.

Some random suggestions - check in and see if there are any local soup kitchens where you can help; stop by your neighbors; talk a walk, run or bike ride (depending on the weather).

Here's a smile to you and a good thought for your day tomorrow. Peace!

12. Your local AA meeting may be having an alcothon
They're usually open meetings, meaning non-alcoholics are welcome.

Plenty of other lonely people there could use the company.

13. I volunteer for meals on wheels.....
and give the regular people a break on Christmas....

I got the same thing. Parents out of town, kids too busy to hang with and too far away to visit.

Divorced and still in shock.

So i try to stay busy. Pretty sure I will be in a bar tommorow night for a couple.

15. Merry Christmas to you!
don't know if you're still online, but wanted to wish you a good eve and day.

my kids and I are having a Simpson's marathon - a family tradition, but not really a christmas one - just when we get new Simpson dvds. Go to a movie tomorrow to be around other people. Walk Hard is very funny! See something to make you laugh, not cry.

I don't know where you live, but downtown where I live has people walking around looking at the Christmas lights every year.

Can you afford to call your family?

I gave my kids a Tickle Me Elmo tonight as a joke - and they loved it. teenage sons who were laughing until they cried. my younger son said he hadn't laughed so hard in a while. I got this one at Good Will -it's the old one. maybe treat yourself to something silly?

You have plenty of people to hang out with here, too.

Unfortunately for you- I'm smoking it right now.

But it's the thought that counts.
