2. I actually have some songs by Krall that I think are ok.
Edited on Wed Dec-19-07 05:09 PM by Forkboy
This from a guy who has nine black metal CDs in my top 20 for the year, and the band Pig Destroyer in my number 1 slot. It's not something I'd want to hear everyday but I can deal with it if I had to.

But I voted for "My love for you is ticking clock...BESERKER...." because that movie just cracks me the fuck up! :)

3. I have all of Diana Krall and Jane Monheit
Excpet for Dianas greatest hits that just came out, no need for it, and I LOVE them. They make really good snuggling music.

I also like this kind of music, I am not into country, or metal, or pop.

Only Jazz and Classical/Chorale music.

yeah, I am that guy...

4. Here's some more really good snuggling music:

...of course, it all depends on who you're snuggling with.

6. Try some Ann Hampton Callaway--

she's really good, too. She has a great smokey, low voice.

9. I think Ann's great...
...I especially like her album "Slow." She does a great duet with her sister on Van Morrison's "Moondance," and Carole King joins her on background vocals for her classic "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow."

8. Oh, dont get me wrong
I got Kind Of Blue here too, but when snuggling, Diana Krall or Jane Monheit will do just fine.

11. I had the pleasure of hearing Jane Monheit here locally
she was amazing and so young! Vocal stylings like Ella and a kick ass back up band, too.

20. Did she play with her hair?
that was my only "complaint" about seeing her perform. She was constantly playing with her hair, pushing it back, flipping it, whatever...it got to be distracting and it really showed her youth, imo. Other than that, she was fantastic, though. Maybe she's gotten a bit more professional over these past few years. I saw her back in 2004, I think it was.

:hi: I have all her CD's. I'm a big fan.

12. I like what I've heard of them
Edited on Thu Dec-20-07 12:55 AM by tigereye
Krall has a great throaty voice and her piano stylings are getting better... I've heard Monheit and enjoyed.

but wow, give me Sarah Vaughn, Ella, Carmen McRae and Betty Carter.

Although it will be interesting to see what Krall and others sound like after they've been singing for a long time...

13. I prefer my chick singers (not a pejorative to them) with a huge set of ovaries.
Seek out the Nancy Wilson/Cannonball Adderley album.

It's one of my desert island discs.

"Happy Talk" and "Never Will I Marry" are SO swinging, and "Save Your Love For Me" and "The Masquearade Is Over" never fail to make me weep.

16. I dig Diana very much, because:
Edited on Thu Dec-20-07 10:02 AM by speedoo
Love her voice and singing style.

She writes some great stuff too.

Wonderful pianist and combo leader.

Don't know the other lady you mention. (on edit... just listened to a preview of "The Very Best of Jane Monheit"..... impressive! Will probably download soon.)

Other divas I dig a lot: Ella, Billie and Nina Simone.... may they all RIP.

PS... Diana's married to Elvis Costello, one very cool dude, and they recently became a mom and dad.

17. Krall is all right with me, but Mrs mitchum doesn't care for her...
Krall can certainly sing better than me, so I have no room to dismiss her ability.
However, Mrs mitchum is a demonstrably better singer than Krall (she really is), so she doesn't have as high an opinion of her. I think the terms that she uses are "pleasant" and "serviceable"
Divas are everywhere

I also remind Mrs mitchum that her husband is much better looking than Krall's husband :)

19. i saw krall a few years ago
and was totally unimpressed...thank goodness the concert was free. she's a decent pianist, an uninspired vocalist, and all of her stuff sounds the same to me. i haven't heard the other woman, but i'll give her a listen.

the same fluffy pap. Man-o-man,if the jazz world wants to throw those who inherited the tradition under the bus, I DO SO WISH they would support those who actually have a grasp. Krall and Monheit are NOT it.
