PHOENIX — A name that was virtually unknown a decade ago has cracked the Top 20 list of the most popular for newborn girls in Arizona.

Nevaeh — heaven spelled backward — registered 18th among names new parents gave their daughters in 2007, according to new figures from the Arizona Department of Health Services. Just a year ago it was 34th, and three years before that it was all the way down at 129th.

That meteoric rise in popularity in Arizona has mirrored the national scene.
In 2000, Nevaeh did not even crack the 1,000 most popular girls' names in the country according to the Social Security Administration.
