Poll question: About last week-end's big storm
After all the hype and thousands of cancellations, we ended up with a fairly standard, run of the mill winter seek-end. Yeah the driving was lousy, but so? This was in Central New York. What happened where you were?

1. Doom and Gloom was forcast
We got rain. No ice, snow, sleet or anything else, just rain and it started 8 hours after we were supposed to get slammed.

2. Ummmmm
I had no electricity for a week and stayed in my cold dark house because there were no hotels or generators available. My street was impassable for a couple of days and I resorted to trying to warm things and cook in the fireplace. Everything in my two freezers had to be dumped. I now need to find a tree trimmer and spend a small fortune having some cracked and hanging tree limbs removed. Some of my smaller landscaping was damaged beyond repair. I couldn't work and earned no money. Also, I was unable to work on some personal Christmas gifts that I was making out of stained glass. Not likely they will be completed now. Bah f*cking humbug.

Glad your storm experience was better.

3. We cancelled some dinner plans after the warning
good thing, too. nobody needed to drive around town after about 9-10" of snow (S.E. Michigan).

The warning prompted me to get gas for the snow thrower.

4. What storm last weekend?
It was dry and just a little bit cool (not cold by any means).

Now the next two weekends look very interesting.

5. I think the broadcasters may have called the storm properly,
but they took no consideration of the history of the places where the storm hit. My county has some huge OshKosh trucks for clearing the snow, not to mention some vertical snow blowers. (Think of a snowblower standing on its side, but 10' tall). It takes more than 4 or 5 inches of wet snow to slow things down here. People prepared for a major storm, but then nothing much happened.

6. We were braced; we got nothing that made us sit up and take notice
Disappointing, really. Eight inches of snow? Pfft--child's play. Call me when it's gonna top a foot or two. (We heard it was going to but the storm system didn't obey.)
