Nor'Easters - dug out?
precipitation totals in/around Wilkes-barre Pa not very impressive - maybe 5 inches total, but it's 2 inches of snow atop 3 inches of packed sleet/ice...

one of our local tv stations went off the air when their transmission tower collapse - it also fell on other transmission lines and took out two of the other local stations.

we got some high winds in the area - south of us in/around hazleton/Mt Top area lots of power outages due to downed trees/branches

neighbor helped us last night by plowing the driveway, but we still had to shovel out around the cars and do the walkway. Heavy heavy white crap. peeking out the front window, because of the snow drifts it looks like we hardly touched the driveway. Road looks like it wasn't even plowed.

probably going to be a snow-day work-at-home for me today - an hour commute on back roads - don't think I'm going to chance it

1. Ouch!
I didn't even know we were supposed to get snow. I've become immune to all the false alarms I guess. I passed 2 separate roll-over accidents on the freeway Saturday morning so I decided to change my plans and went back home to bake cookies and read. It snowed all day Saturday here in my part of Wisconsin but now everything is cleaned up and it looks like life will go on as scheduled for us. Looks like we lucked out in comparison to you. My condolences. I hate the thick heavy snow, I'd much rather have 30 below.

2. Hi Rad. We got about a foot of snow with ice mixed in at the end.
Very high winds and I lost power for awhile but my emergency generator kicked in, thank God. My driveway, which is 1/4 mile long, has been plowed and sanded so all I have to worry about is the condition of the roads to work. Schools around here have a 2 hour delay so I think I'll wait awhile before I head out. This has been a busy winter so far and I don't think it's officially winter yet!

3. was just out with the dogs
neighbor was driving sideways down our small hill. and he has a big truck 4-wheel drive...

road still now plowed, school delays here too. but I'm going to work from home today - the hour commute is on a secondary highway up and down some very big hills.

4. Not too bad--timing was everything
The two storm systems didn't combine over us like they predicted, otherwise it would have been much worse. As it was, we got a few inches of snow, then sleet (but it was during the night on Saturday), then about a foot of snow on Sunday, and then the winds kicked in late Sunday night. Today it's cold but sunny and no wind--wait, scratch that--a few flurries now.

The worst part is our idiot neighbor who thinks there's some value in opening and slamming all the doors on both cars, REPEATEDLY, the morning after it snows. I don't think he's trying to shake the snow off the roofs, but I can't quite figure out what he DOES think he's doing.

Oh wait. He's an idiot. I forgot. :banghead:

5. 19" of snow here in Cooksburg, PA
The sign says "No winter maintenance". Poor Murphy the snow is so deep it is covering his legs all the way to his chest.

6. wow, what a lovely picture!
road with no snow maintenance. Must be a pretty quiet area...

this pic. would make a great Christmas card!

we got only a bit of snow and ice, most of it missed us. But my son's basketball hoop blew over, and that's the first time that has happened. It was really howling last night.

9. We live one mile from Cook Forest State Park
My Mom lives in Monroeville. She said they didn't have anything. Most of the snow fell after midnight last night and it is still snowing. Yeah, it's really peaceful here now.

8. Very pretty! All the snow melted off the tree's here yesterday
and I wanted to take a pic of the tree's before that happened
but I couldn't find the new batteries for my camera in time. :(

That's a great shot! :)

10. Thanks!
:-) This is the first winter we have lived here, so it's hard to know if this is typical for up here. I guess we are getting lake effect snow. It's snowing again right now.

7. Hell no, I'm not dug out !! My bedroom window and my car doors are frozen shut
Edited on Mon Dec-17-07 01:08 PM by Breeze54
and there's frozen snow blocking me from backing the car out. We got an additional 9 inches

on top of the 9 from Thursday and then it all got covered in ice. The wind is awful still today,

quite gusty here and even though the sun is out, nothing is melting. I need a metal shovel;

to break up the big chunks of ice snow blocking my wheels that the plow left behind.

It feels like 8 degree's out with the wind chill factor. BRR!! But I'm going out there anyway.

I need to go to the store and get a few things. Maybe a pick ax! :P

11. If it was just the snow, you'd get no complaints from me...
But this ice is the real issue. Hopefully the mid-week warm up comes to pass because it's practically immovable.

12. Nah, we don't dig out, except for the front steps. Mrs R's car has all-wheel drive,
and mine is dangerous to drive on snow, so we just use her car.
