WORST root beer of all time
I know, copycat, but I used to treasure A & W root beer.
We used to buy it in gallon jugs from the A & W restaurants.

Nowadays it's nearly as bad as store-brand root beer. Blech.

1. I *loved* the A&W restaurant!
We'd go when I was a kid, they did car-side service! :bounce:

and that's what they were always called as far as I knew for the longest time.

Called that down here in OK, as well as chili dog at some places.

18. I've always lived in rural Maine, so I don't know a lot of the other regional names for
things, let alone the fact that A&Ws had restaurants. (Although I swear that seems familiar to me. Unless I am mixing them up with Bonanza.)

20. Only Bonanza I've heard of
was a steakhouse like Ponderosa, neither very good. Is/was there a place up there with carhops called Bonanza?

21. It was a steakhouse place. No carhops that I can recall. The only carhop place I know of around here
is Fast Eddie's. But then I have never seen it, just heard of it in passing. So it might not even be a carhop place after all.

23. Your not wrong
A & W did have restaurants...there used to be one in South Portland....
BTW...have you ever been to "Fat Boys" drive-in on Old Bath Rd in Brunswick?....talk about going back in time. Food is great and they have a "sock hop" every summer.

26. Aha! then there is a chance I either saw one or stopped at one on my way out of state as
a munchkin.

I have not been to FatBoys. It sounds wicked cool but Bangor is my nearest large town and I don't think we have one of those kinds of things up here. (Well, Ellsworth is equidistant and certainly growing by leaps and bounds, but it's still no Bangor.)

19. You mean there's a such thing as BAD root beer?
I pretty much like them all. A&W right out of the tap, Barq's, Mug, XXX, etc.

If you get a chance to drink XXX Root Beer, you really must. It's Dr. Pepper's own brand of root beer, but for the longest time they've only sold it in select restaurants because of competition on the grocery store shelves. I love XXX Root Beer.

God awful root beer!

Best root beer is home-made right down the road from me at a place called Tom Wahls. They serve it up in a frosty mug.
