More hilarity from Americanforums.net
Posted by Guardian0399:

"if more and more gays adopt, there will be a trend of religious removal from society and with that goes our morals and values, so there is much more at stake here than adoption by gays.

Besides, if gays want kids.. tell them to get right and become straight./i know this is a ridiculous solution, but i had to say it."

3. funny thing is
All of the gay people I know are some of the nicest people I've met. Why do they assume just because someone is different they're going to be evil or something?

4. Morals and values have nothing to do with Religion..
They are separate and inert...I'm sick of the reglious claiming complete ownership of morals and values...These people are some of the most hypocratic that walk the face of the earth...but they will go on and on about how they are like Jesus....

Our country was founded on Christianity, and it is evident in our laws which closely resemble the 10 commandments. Also, our fore fathers did not want a government that only recognized one religion and had no tolerance for others. To say that our fore fathers wanted our government to be completely secular is ridiculous, look at our money, at our bill of rights and our constitution, there are numerous references to God. And despite what others woul dthink, it is not a generic god, the last i looked only christians were present at the time of the revolution.

And the answer he got--------------

Money - God did not appear on it until the 20th century.

There are NO references to God in the Constitution, nor in the Bill of Rights.

As far as laws being close to the 10 commandments, may I ask you where commandments 1, 2, 3, 4, 9 and 10 are codified? That's 6 out of 10 that have NO parallel civil law.

It IS a generic "maker" they referred to. Jefferson and Franklin were deists. So was Madison.

Here are a couple quotes for you (both by Jefferson):

The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others." --Thomas Jefferson: Notes on Virginia, 1782. ME 2:221

Common sense the foundation of all authorities, of the laws themselves, and of their construction." --Thomas Jefferson: Batture at New Orleans, 1812. ME 18:92
