Hey, Boston...I'll trade you for some blizzard?

edit: changing "warning" to "watch" because the Riverview weather warning folks are obviously dumbasses.

8. that sounds like a miswording
a warning means a tornado has been spotted by radar or has been visualized by spotters

a tornado typically lasts only a few minutes, some will spin up in supercells and march across the heartland but they tend to cycle down and back up over and over

I'd guess it is a watch, not a warning.

Unless it is like the end of the world in the Day after Tomorrow

then we're all screwn anyway :P

3. You're new to the tornado business aren't you?
Watch=conditions are right for tornadoes to form.

Warning=a tornado has been spotted, or there's a bow echo on radar.

An 8 hour tornado warning is HIGHLY unlikely.

5. Stupid weather center in Riverview.
Buncha hacks they are. Obviously they meant "watch".

10. That is okay. The weather casters here in CA talk about black ice in the mountains
And there is no possible way for there to BE black ice in the mountains here. Regular ice, yes, but not black ice.

Black ice only happens when the high temperature is still below zero.

Must be nice to work in an industry for which 10% accuracy is considered outstanding performance.

7. Oh, and I wouldn't panic too much.
In early summer, we get tornado watches every time the temperature and humidity get a little above average. If I panicked every time they issued a tornado watch, I'd be crazier than I am now. Just know where the basement is--or a sturdy interior room.

12. I've been through both, and I agree.
I'd take a Nor'easter over a tornado. But I'd take a tornado watch over a definite Nor'easter any day.

13. Those are freaking scary!!!!
Edited on Sat Dec-15-07 10:12 PM by Breeze54
Take care and be careful! I hated those 'warnings' & 'watches' when I lived in Illinois!

Scared the living shit out of me! :scared: And we watched one spin about a mile from our

apt. and it finally touched down and blew away a house and a barn!! :scared:
