What's the best way to display holiday cards without it looking tacky?
Every year I get these cards and every year I don't know what to do with them. They end up stacked in a pile on the corner of a table somewhere.

Here's a chance to play Martha Stewart....

1. If you have a mantle, it's handy and not in the center of everything.
Failing that, I got nothin'.

2. Why would you care if it "looks tacky" to anyone? Just put the cards out
wherever it makes you happy to put them.

3. I don't think there's any way, except maybe a fireplace mantel, to not be tacky with a card display.
So just put 'em wherever you can see them best and enjoy them the most.

4. Get yourself a length of 1x2 and some pretty cord (from craft store)
Edited on Thu Dec-13-07 09:29 PM by havocmom
Put those little picture hanging eye-bolts and a length of wire to hang the 1x2

Get some pretty cord, to match your decoration or room colors. Cut lengths of the cord and attach to the 1x2, tying in a bow over or under the wood strip. OR wrap each length once and knot or put a small knot in the end then staple to BACK of the 1x2, then pulling over the wood and hanging down.

Put knots down the lengths of the cords to secure a staple or tape to attach cards to the cords... all in long vertical rows.

If you happen to have an entry foyer, this makes a quick way to add some holiday cheer to that area of your home. If not, any bare wall will do, but it's nice to put someplace that is maybe a bit shy of holiday cheer. I even made a Christmas 'room divider' this way one year.

7. Ooooh I like that idea!
Thank you very much!

I just don't care for those wire Christmas tree things where you stick cards in them....and I was drawing a blank on an alternative.

10. We have some clips we got at Ikea that you are supposed to use to hang a sheer.
I've seen them at lots of other places too. Basically just a ring with a clip at the end that you would string wire to and hang the sheer. But we strung fishing line through them and ran the fishing line around a half-wall in our living room. We clip the cards to the clips and let them be additional decoration.

13. If I did a basket I'd have to place it up high
out of the reach of the toddler....

18. mail them back to the original sender
with a three page essay on how sending cards wastes trees and resources. include a chocolate bar.

those who reply with a laugh understand irony, those who do not should be removed from contact

19. Put them on the window valence. If not tie a string across the top of the windows
and hang the cards there. There can never be too many christmas cards.
