Any fans of Mexican beer?
Just a question. I do not usually drink, but I find I have a soft spot for Pacifico.

Anyone else really like Mexican beer?

8. Exactly!
I'm in Vegas and Corona is WAY too popular here. I drive all the bartenders crazy when I ask for a Labatts Blue, or Molson Golden. They keep charging me import prices for them, but Corona is a "domestic" beer. :wtf:

4. Si!
Indio, Carta Blanca, and Corona are among the best beers in the world!

Indio is rather had to get around here!

18. but don't forget the Tabasco
a little dash in a tecate can, and you are in heaven.

I am a fan of the Monte Xanic wines, however, who knew you'd get decent Cabernet in Baja?

19. I second Dos Equis XX "Oscuro"
 muy tasty!

Tecate is in second place.

Negra Modelo and Bohemia tied for third.

Never understood the attraction of Corona me'self.

Damn! I need a beer break and it's only 9AM.

22. I agree, Richardo -
on Dos Equis Dark, Negra Modelo, and Bohemia.

I've never had time for Corona. I think it's like Rolling Rock Light Light. Beer-flavored Perrier.

Tecate and Modelo Especial both leave me cold.

Have you ever tried Noche Buena? A great Christmas beer.

Negro Modelo
Don’t lighten up
BY KIRSTEN MARCUM

A lot of things get lighter in warm weather, and beer is no exception. Who drinks winter lagers in July? Show me a person who strolls into an August heat wave and says, " Boy, a Guinness would hit the spot right about now. "

Which is why, in the universe of Mexican beers, Negro Modelo has gotten short shrift compared to, say, its plain-Jane brewed cousin, Corona. But surprisingly, it’s actually a perfect time to break out this crisp, full-bodied beer. It’s deeper and more complex than Dos Equis (or Sam Adams), and its malty, slightly chocolate flavor offers the right counterpoint to a spicy mole sauce — or even just chips and salsa — on a humid day. Don’t be surprised if it’s hard to go back to watery lager afterwards.

Available at local liquor stores for approximately $6.99 for a six-pack, or $10.99 for a 12-pack.

13. Negra Modelo
Yup, that is my favorite beer.

I used to like Labatt's, Molson's, Corona -- beers that don't have such a bitter aftertaste. But, Modelo has more flavor, without seeming bitter. Shiner Bock, to me, is the best of the rest.

They're even better chilled in the freezer for ten minutes or so -- nice contrast with August in Texas.

17. Dos Equis is the most flavorful.
Of course, that's not saying much. I guess the Mexicans save the flavor for their food. YUM!

24. good MExican beers
include:

Bohemia--excellent with lighter Mexican food (Tex-Mex, fish)

Negra Modelo--excellent with heavier Mexican food (meats)

Pacifico is very refreshing.

None of the above require the introduction of fruit wedges. ("Mexican beer" does not equal Corona, which is awful.)

26. The lime wedge explained.

A friend returned home for a visit after working in Mexico for two years. We went to a bar one evening. Some guys next to us were drinking Coronas with the obligatory lime wedge jammed down the bottle neck. My friend chuckled and rolled his eyes.
"What?"
"I don't think the lime goes IN the beer."
"Why not? What's it for?"
"In Mexico, especially the more rural parts, the flies are as thick as...well...flies. Indoors or out, they usually bring your beer uncapped. There's an opener on the table or a few scattered down the bar. There's also a bowl of lime wedges. After you open your beer bottle, you put a lime wedge on the mouth to keep the flies from crawling on it or, worse, falling in. So now all the gringos are putting the lime IN the beer? Funny."
