Marion Jones Stripped of Medals, Is Banned From Games (Update2)

Dec. 12 (Bloomberg) -- The International Olympic Committee formally stripped Marion Jones of the five medals she won at the 2000 Sydney Games after she admitted doping.

The IOC also barred the U.S. athlete from next year's Beijing Games and may extend the ban, President Jacques Rogge told a news conference in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Also today, Rogge said the IOC may start to collaborate with a betting company before the Games in August to alert it to possible attempts to fix results. He said there is no immediate concern.

Jones, 32, returned the medals to the U.S. Olympic Committee and announced her retirement in October after telling a federal court that she used steroids before the 2000 Games
