Angry highschool girl rant.
:grr: :banghead:  :banghead: :grr:

I'm a sophomore. In highschool.

I have big boobs. Do I show them off? No. Do I wear sweatpants that say 'Hottie' or 'Juicy Land' across the ass? No. Do I have a belly button piercing? No. Do I have a tattoo? No, but I want one. But not the tramp stamps on your butt.

You look like a 47 year old hooker that's trying too hard, you don't look intelligent, you're just asking for someone to stick a pen in one of your cracks, and worst of all, I have to look at the uncovered flesh right in front of me! Why can't I look away?! Because it's EVERYWHERE!!!!!!!

Ugh. I hate the slut fashions of today. And what's more, I hate the parents that let their children wear things like that. And they're going to grow up and still wear stuff like that. It's sickening for people around them.

Rrrrrrr....

1. Wow, you're very mature.
Usually, people wait until they're old farts before they start complaining what kids are wearing these days.

7. Ugh. I hate it when some stupid teenager can't stay off of it
because it shaves five seconds off their walk home. It takes me three hours just to take care of the damn thing, and I don't want some stupid walking across it, making marks and wearing it down into a little path, just they get home five seconds earlier!

5. You sound like my niece.
Personally, I don't care. A hundred years ago a woman in pants was scandalous. 2000 years ago some people wore togas. A lot of flesh showing there.

Just the other day I saw a woman in very short shorts shopping at Target. It was 35 degrees outside. My thought? :wtf: Isn't she cold?

22. But flesh ain't the point. There's a big difference between titilation and nudity.
There's a big difference between, say, a nudist society and culture that teaches "jiggle and giggle" behavioral norms for its young women.

35. Oh, I don't know...there've been pretty sexualized cultures in the past...
Ones that didn't have the dichotomy we have, which, frankly, I think contributes to the problem. Sex is bad, but we like it a lot. It's forbidden, but oh-so-enticing.

And another interesting thing is different people find different things sexy. Jiggle and giggle certainly doesn't do anything for ME.

I am suprised your school doesn't have a dress policy.
alot of the schools have them now... here where I live they can't wear those sweats. and the shirts have to be long enough to cover your "crack" when you sit...

My sisters kids in Jr. high can only wear collared shirts and pants with only 4 pockets.... I think they aren't allowed to wear jeans.....

But here's the thing.

Male teachers can't enforce it because they look like pervs (My band teacher told a girl to pull up her shirt once, and he was bright red the entire time)

A lot of female teachers don't enforce it either because they have more important things to do. ugh...

13. About five years ago, the male principal at a high school in my home town
decided that thong underwear were tools of Teh Debbil because (a.) it was obvious that girls were wearing them as they had no VPL, and (2.) they were a distraction, especially when said devotées of Beelzebub bent over and put the evidence on display.

The students countered, "Stop looking at our underwear!"

The ban didn't stick, and the principal will forever be known as a pev. :D

14. OMG--that reminds me
Last week at work a customer was crouching looking at something on the bottom shelf and one of my young co-workers asked me out of the blue, "is it okay to tell a customer their thong is showing?"

I glanced over, blinked, and just shook my head. "Probably not," I told him. "Better to just pretend you don't see a thing."

18. Eh. It just bothers me when a 14 year old is wandering around
showing off a piercing.

It just reminds me of an older woman whose trying too hard to get attention... I dunno. I guess I watch too many What not to Wear.

And I'm just angry because every girl who dresses like this will not be taken seriously. It makes me sad.

20. i dont think a bellybutton piercing makes anyone a tramp. most of my clothes show off my boobs
and i am neither dumb nor unaccomplished.

you do what makes you comfortable with your body but you should allow other women to as well.

yes sometimes youngsters can be trashy, but if they cant be trashy at 14 what age can they make fashion mistake? 55?

i agree with most of your rants, but had a grown up man posted this, i would have called him sexist.

25. There might be an age between 14 and 55 tho.
There's a time to be trashy. When you're 55, however, it's called empowerment cause then you know what you're doing and you know how to say "no" or tell a guy "that's far enough, buster." I think society is sexualizing teen culture because the 14 and 15 and 16 year old girls haven't learned yet how to say "far enough, buster" and are thus easier to exploit.

I'm dealing with a question of gradations here, there's no official cut off point. But in my gut I feel what's "showing it off" at 25 can be wildly inappropriate for 15. Right now we have a culture that wants to bring the 15 year olds onto the same play ground with the 20 somethings. As a teacher with 130 teenagers, I can tell you that almost all of them can't handle that yet; and those who think they can stand a very good chance of getting deeply hurt.

31. And that's perfectly fine.
But when it's at school and HELLO BOOBs is going on, there's an issue.

And what really bothers me is that someone's parents let them walk around like that. They're not taken seriously at school by teachers or by peers, and that's the main issue.

42. I'm with you on this
I don't think that being comfortable w/ your body and feeling the need to show it off are necessarily tied together.

Age appropriateness is important, as is appropriateness for venue. There's a time and place for everything, and school isn't the time and place for boobs and belly buttons.

Individualism and expression are indeed important, but it's also important for kids to know the "time and place for everything" concept. There's no reason this can't be part of their education.

45. keep in mind many parents may not be letting their kids
dress like that. When I was in high school, I'd bring a change of clothes with me. My parents would see me leave in an "acceptable" outfit, and then I'd change when I got to school.

Though there are stupid people everywhere that let their kids dress like that. I imagine some of them are just picking their arguments too. Allowing their teens to express themselves and all that.

23. wow, I'm not the youngest one here!
Almost 16-year-old here. I kind of agree with what you're saying, although when it comes to adults wearing that stuff, I don't really care. People can wear what they want, and women shouldn't be judged for how they CHOOSE to dress, if they CHOOSE to do so. And "slut" is kind of a sexist term, IMO. And I don't like "hooker" either, because I don't agree with stigmatizing sex workers for their personal choices. Actually, I support legalizing prostitution.

That being said, nice to meet you my dear!

29. I agree about legalizing prostitution.
We all wind up selling our bodies for something. The only difference is what we market them as: A tool for harvesting lettuce? A device for performing surgery? A weapon for killing people in far-away countries? If you're lucky, you get to sell your mind instead of your body, but it's still selling the Self in one way or another.
As for how people dress, I don't see anything indecent about the human body. And doing things to make yourself prettier can be a fun game, I guess. It's not something that I do; I don't care what I look like, but if other people want to, it's no problem.
I guess it does kind of annoy me, though, when these girls seem to have no problem with guys saying disrespectful things to them. Some guys say the rudest shit to them, and they just giggle. Show some self-respect! Tell him to fuck off, or at least ignore him!

Just my opinion.

33. you might want to tone down the hate...
it's a very strong word.

Live and let live. You're a liberal. Be a bit more easygoing. Let's not slap a big red "A" on these girls just yet. If it bothers you, look away. Deal with it. The blatant sexualization of teens, mostly girls, is troubling, but it is really difficult for some kids to resist peer pressure and all of the marketing shoved at them these days. Just because you can resist, doesn't mean others can or even want to.

It's dangerous to think that just because someone is showing more skin than you would, they're 'asking for it'. If one of these girls were assaulted or raped, would you think they had asked for it?

And honestly, the "47 year old hooker that's trying too hard" line sucks. Can you have some compassion for your gender, please? Those who don't look or act like you? If you've noticed, most of those women on "What Not to Wear" who do dress rather badly are extremely nice and likable people.

37. Sounds like things haven't changed at all!
I graduated HS 7 years ago... just when the Juicy Couture thing was just coming in. I remember maybe 1 or 2 girls wearing the sweatpants but only in gym.

However, as I lived in Minnesota, the fashionable thing to do was to wear cleavage-bearing tank tops (TANK TOPS) in the middle of fucking winter. We had the low rider jeans (still in fashion 7 years later, fer chrissake's!) and I would see the tats as well. It didn't help when the wearer of the low riders wasn't in shape, if you get my drift.

University is when people start to get some sense!

38. By calling other young women "sluts"
you do a disservice to all women. I'd tell the same thing to my daughter. Look, on one hand I can empathize. I'm on the busty side side myself and put up with a certain amount of harassment when I was in high school because of that, but I also have a daughter your age (she turns 16 in two months). She's an athlete and has a great figure who on occasion wears a short skirt (although the chances of her ever wearing anything that says 'juicy' on the butt is low as she has a good degree of fashion sense). She's in honors classes, has a variety of interests and while she has a boyfriend, he actually goes to another school and isn't the center of her whole life. If some other girl said my daughter dressed like a "slut" because she wears a short skirt, weather permitting, I could guarantee my daughter would say, "She's just not secure with herself." Frankly, she'd probably be right. What a young woman wears is no excuse for bad behavior of others.
