Petrino runs like a beaten cur back to college.

ATLANTA -- Bobby Petrino resigned as Atlanta Falcons coach on Tuesday, the team said. He lasted only 13 games with the NFL team.

Sources have told Pete Prisco of CBSSports.com that Petrino will be taking the head coaching job at the University of Arkansas.

Petrino left Louisville to become Falcons coach in January for a five-year, $24 million contract, largely because Atlanta felt he could help star quarterback Michael Vick reach his full potential.

A few months later, Vick came under investigation for a grisly dogfighting operation that eventually led him to plead guilty to federal charges. He was sentenced Monday to 23 months in prison without ever taking a snap for Petrino.

The Falcons said they would have no further comment on Petrino's decision until a Wednesday news conference with owner Arthur Blank and general manager Rich McKay

Arkansas has been looking for two weeks for a coach to replace Houston Nutt, who resigned after a tumultuous season and hours later took the Mississippi job.

After losing Vick, Petrino tried three other starting quarterbacks without success. The Falcons are 3-10 and assured of the 32nd losing season in their 42-year history.

1. Some guys belong in college.
Lou Holtz only lasted a year in the NFL, too.

many times in the past, and many times in the future, you know they will blather on to some kids about 'perserverence', 'sticking it out'. 'giving your all', leaving it all on the field', etc but the first time they ran into a tough situation, they cut and run. bleah.

3. I'd prefer they be more honest in general.
Saban's bullshit ran like the Mississippi after a heavy rain.

5. Yep, but a player that wants to transfer has to sit out a year.
I don't get it.

7. "Pulling a Petrino" is now the Louisville phrase for

insisting that you won't do something, just before you do it. What a legacy.

9. He couldn't even wait three weeks for the season to end?
Or even tell his players and coaches?

Nice.

10. Wouldn't even face Arthur Blank
Resigned on the phone! Real class act. I'm not a Falcon fan, but I feel sorry for Arthur Blank. He seems like a decent, straightforward guy. Especially when compared to other NFL owners, 95% of which are narcissistic assholes
