My Plan to keep the Huskies out of the Christmas tree:
It's been many long years since I've bothered with a tree. The last one endured quite well until about three days before Christmas; I was awakened in the middle of the night by a popping sound. Listening in the dark, I heard a new popping sound about every ten seconds or so.

Going downstairs and turning on the light, I discovered each of my Siberian Huskies standing in a pool of broken colored glass. Before them was a tree, covered only in the little clips from all the glass ornaments they had taken one bite from, disintegrating them.

Ten minutes of cleaning broken bits from doggy gums and a considerable clean-up in general cured me. No more trees, thank you very much.

Fast-forward to now.

The newly-minted Mrs. Robb is having none of it. Tree it will be. So plan I must.

My strategy involves isolating the tree area behind several window screens, attached to one another and turned on their sides to form a rather ugly yet slightly see-through fence-like structure about three feet in height. Such screens have successfully discouraged them in the past from entering rooms temporarily. Although to be certain if they really wanted to get through, the screens are no barrier.

Am I kidding myself? Will carnage ensue despite my preparations? :D

2. I haven't put up a tree in years, but I learned the hard way to use
the method you describe to keep cats from overturning the tree. Once you get the tree decorated, you can hardly see the anchors at all.

3. I no longer use glass decorations.
I've slowly switched over to "glass look" IOW, plastic. That combined with some colored plastic, wooden and brass ornaments and those fruit/poinsettia picks and nothing can break anymore. Now all I hear is *plunk*, roll, roll, little paws running, roll, roll. Cat hockey on the wood floor.

Hope the screen idea works for you.

5. Cheap, craft store stuffed bear decorations.
Buy a bunch, dress them up with cheap ribbons in red and green. Attach to limbs with pipe cleaners.

6. silly Robb, get a table top tree
sturdy side table, draped in red flannel, 4 foot tree on table out of reach of curious pups

tall tree, pretty display, no glassy gums, happy bride, problem solved

7. I used to put my tree in a playpen, so the kid couldn't destroy the ornaments.
